BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Tissue factor (TF; an initiator of coagulation) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF; a marker of angiogenesis) are involved in the hypercoagulable state associated with malignancy. We investigated their roles in chronic atrial fibrillation (AF), a condition also associated with increased risk of stroke and thromboembolism, as well as a prothrombotic or hypercoagu...
In this case report, we present the of a 17-year-old stroke patient suffering from coronavirus disease (COVID)-19. He was successfully treated with intravenous and endovascular treatment. After extensive work-up, hypercoagulable state due to COVID-19 infection assumed as probable cause stroke.
STUDIES ON THE FIBRINOGEN METABOLISM IN THE RABBIT WITH EXPERIMENTALLY INDUCED HYPERCOAGULABLE STATE
A 33-year-old male with acute pancreatitis induced by hypertriglyceridemia had problems during treatment with plasma exchange. The hypercoagulable state was prevented by introducing innovative methods for cleaning and warming of the circuit and dialyzer. This enabled successful therapy, and the patient fully recovered from life-threatening acute pancreatitis.
TOPIC: Critical Care TYPE: Medical Student/Resident Case Reports INTRODUCTION: Acute hip fracture is deemed an emergent orthopedic intervention, such interventions can be complicated if the patient on anticoagulation for chronic thromboembolic disease. We are presenting a case of elderly who presented with acute elevated INR that required rapid reversal, which unfortunately led to fatal event. ...
Introduction: Extreme altitude travel has gained popularity globally for adventurous, scientific, and military endeavors. Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) at extreme altitude is a rare, covert, and emergent condition requiring immediate intervention. Case Presentation: A case of CVST masqueraded as high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) at 6700 m/22000 ft i...
Objective: To identify significant etiological differences between patients with bilateral and unilateral Acute Ischemic Stroke (AIS). Background: Limited data suggest bilateral AIS is relatively common, accounting for approximately ten percent of AIS. However, stroke etiology as defined by TOAST criteria has not been well defined for patients with evidence of bilateral AIS on MRI. Methods: Con...
