Hypertriglyceridemia is a rare cause of pancreatitis. In treatment pancreatic rest, lifestyle changes, medications (fibrates, n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, and nicotinic acid) are essential. Many experimental treatment modalities have been reported as insulin and heparin infusion and plasmapheresis. In this study we present the hypertriglyceridemia-induced pancreatitis treated with supportiv...

Hyperlipidemia in conjunction with uninephrectomy leads to renal injury in rats. It is unknown whether this is due to mesangial cell or podocyte injury and whether the injuries induced by hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia share a similar pathogenesis. Therefore, renal effects of hypercholesterolemia were studied in male rats with dietary hypercholesterolemia compared with rats on a ...

Healthy, nonobese, young rats developed hypertriglyceridemia (mean triglyceride levels of 250 mg/dl) following consumption of a sucrose-lard diet. The hypertriglyceridemia was apparent three days after start of the diet and persisted throughout the 4-week experimental period. Body weight, liver weight, and serum glucose levels were similar in animals eating either the sucrose-lard diet or stand...

BACKGROUND Here, we aim to identify defects of apolipoprotein (apo) B lipoprotein metabolism that characterize hypertriglyceridemia, focusing on apoC-III and apoE. METHODS AND RESULTS We studied the transport of plasma apoB within 21 distinct subfractions as separated by anti-apoC-III and anti-apoE immunoaffinity chromatography and ultracentrifugation in 9 patients with moderate hypertriglyce...

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)-induced hypertriglyceridemia causing pancreatitis is an interesting phenomenon that has rarely been reported in literature. Plasmapharesis is a well known treatment modality for hypertriglyceridemia-induced pancreatitis. We report a patient with DKA-induced hypertriglyceridemic acute pancreatitis treated successfully with plasmapharesis.

Background—Here, we aim to identify defects of apolipoprotein (apo) B lipoprotein metabolism that characterize hypertriglyceridemia, focusing on apoC-III and apoE. Methods and Results—We studied the transport of plasma apoB within 21 distinct subfractions as separated by anti–apoC-III and anti–apoE immunoaffinity chromatography and ultracentrifugation in 9 patients with moderate hypertriglyceri...

Hypertriglyceridemia is associated with increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) (1–5), and it is an integral component of the overlapping syndromes of familial combined hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance syndrome, atherogenic lipoprotein profile, and hyperapobetalipoproteinemia (6 ). More than one mechanism may be involved in the increased risk of CHD associated with increased serum trig...

OBJECTIVE Raloxifene hydrochloride is a selective estrogen receptor modulator that to date has not been shown to cause hypertriglyceridemia in normal, diabetic, or hypertriglyceridemic women. This study was designed to assess the effect of raloxifene on serum triglycerides in postmenopausal women who have a history of increased hypertriglyceridemia with oral estrogen therapy. RESEARCH DESIGN ...

Plasma lipids and apolipoproteins were determined in 19 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) or malignant lymphoma (ML) who were treated by L-asparaginase with prednisolone and vincristine. Extreme hypertriglyceridemia, i.e., over 10,000 mg/l of the maximum serum triglyceride concentration, was induced in 8 patients; these concentrations were not over 10,000 mg/l in the remaining 11...
