Infantile hemangioma or hamangioma of infancy is the most common tumor in children, with great variability of presentation. Most cases resolve spontaneously and treatment is usually indicated for specific cases where injury has a high rate of morbidity or disfigurement after regression. The treatment is based on the use of systemic corticosteroids, which can also be used topically or by intrale...

Introduction: Hemangiomas are the most common tumors of infancy and infantile hemangiomas are the most common vascular tumors. The etiology of this tumor is unknown. Hemangiomas commonly occur in the skin followed by the deep tissues (intramuscular) and rarely within bones. Case Presentation: Hereby, the case of a 6-month-old girl whose whole left lower limb f...

OBJECTIVE To provide incidence data based on ethnicity, prematurity, and body site for vascular, pigmented, and other common congenital cutaneous findings; to compare these results with previously published prospective studies; and to define updated nomenclature, classification, clinical course, and prognostic factors for the pediatric practitioner to promote a better understanding of benign ve...

BACKGROUND Infantile hemangiomas (IHs) are the most common benign tumor of infancy, yet their pathogenesis is poorly understood. IHs are believed to originate from a progenitor cell, the hemangioma stem cell (HemSC). Recent studies by our group showed that NOTCH proteins and NOTCH ligands are expressed in hemangiomas, indicating Notch signaling may be active in IHs. We sought to investigate dow...

Infantile hemangiomas are endothelial tumors that grow rapidly in the first year of life and regress slowly during early childhood. Although hemangiomas are well-known vascular lesions, little is known about the mechanisms that cause the excessive endothelial cell proliferation in these most common tumors of infancy. To investigate the molecular basis of hemangioma, we isolated endothelial cell...

Propranolol, a nonselective blocker of β-adrenergic receptors, has become the first-line treatment for complicated infantile hemangiomas. Therefore, its use in the pediatric population has expanded in recent years. In adults, β-blockers have been reported to be the most common causative agents for drug-induced psoriasis. In infants treated with propranolol for infantile hemangioma, the onset of...

We report a case of a male newborn who was evaluated due to persistent jaundice. Evaluation showed hypothyroidism associated with infantile hemangioma of the liver. Euthyroidism and regression of the hepatic hemangiomas were obtained with L-thyroxin and Propranolol treatment. This case emphasizes the importance of screening for hypothyroidism in patients with neonatal hemangiomatosis.

Hemangioma is one of the most common types of infantile vascular benign tumor. The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and tumor protein p53 (p53) in the proliferation and apoptosis of hemangioma cells. A total of 38 paraffin-embedded hemangioma specimens (16 males and 22 females) and another 5 paraffin-embedded healthy surrounding tissue samples, c...

Infantile hemangiomas are localized lesions comprised primarily of aberrant endothelial cells. COSMC plays a crucial role in blood vessel formation and is characterized as a molecular chaperone of T-synthase which catalyzes the synthesis of T antigen (Galβ1,3GalNAc). T antigen expression is associated with tumor malignancy in many cancers. However, roles of COSMC in infantile hemangioma are sti...

BACKGROUND Infantile hemangiomas are common tumors, distinctive for their perinatal presentation, rapid growth during the first year of life, and subsequent involution-and for their expression of a unique immunophenotype shared by placental microvessels. Occasional "hemangiomas" differ from the classic form in presenting fully formed at birth, then following a static or rapidly involuting cours...
