In this report, we present cyclohexylcyanine, a phthalocyanine analogue with two cyclohexane units incorporated into the backbone of the macrocycle; in the free base, the ionizable protons lie on the periphery of the ring, and when metalated with silver the macrocycle binds to the metal via these same meso nitrogen atoms.

In contrast to amidines bearing ionizable alpha-CH bonds, which react with nitric oxide (NO) to add diazeniumdiolate groups at their alpha-carbons, benzamidine forms an N-bound diazeniumdiolate that can be further derivatized at the other amidine nitrogen and/or the terminal oxygen to form caged NO compounds as potential NO prodrugs.

The evidence bearing on our revision of the early assignment of the circular dichroism spectrum of the maximally unordered polypeptide chain is reviewed. Our initial, as well as subsequent, studies are believed to support the proposed revision in assignment. This conclusion need not be modified in the light of recent work on water-soluble, non-ionizable polymers.
