Schiff bases of N-methyl and N-acetyl isatin derivatives with different aryl amines have been synthesized and screened for anticonvulsant activities against maximal electroshock (MES) and subcutaneous metrazole (ScMet). N-methyl-5-bromo-3-(p-chlorophenylimino) isatin (2) exhibited anticonvulsant activity in MES and ScMet with LD50 > 600 mg kg(-1), showing better activity than the standard drugs...

Transition metal complexes of thiosemicarbazones have generated considerable interest due to their wide ranging biological activities. Zinc II complexes with thiosemicarbazone ligands were reported to posses antiproliferative, antitumor and antimicrobial activities. In this work, zinc (II) complex of 2-acetylbenzothiophene 3-thiosemicarbazone [Zn(BTTS)2] has been prepared by condensation of zin...

The recent introduction of diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) and the thiosemicarbazones represents a significant contribution in the treatment of leprosy. The efficacy of DDS has been confirmed by a number of well-controlled observations (1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11). The effectiveness of thiosemicarbazone still remains to be evaluated (3, 7, 9, 12, 13, 14). For both drugs, the periods of observation have...

Isatin is a biofactor with different biochemical and pharmacological properties whose effects attract much attention because it an endogenous inhibitor of the monoamine oxidase in brain. When exogenously administrated, isatin increases dopamine levels intact denervated striatum rats, effect that could indicate its potential as therapeutic agent Parkinson disease. However, neurochemical mechanis...

A new thiosemicarbazone (LH2) derived from indole-7-carbaldehyde was synthesized and reacted with Zn(II), Cd(II), Pd(II) and Pt(II) salts. The reactions with zinc and cadmium salts in 2 : 1 (ligand-metal) molar ratio afforded complexes of the type MX2(LH2)2, (X = Cl, Br or OAc), in which the thiosemicarbazone acts as a neutral S-monodentate ligand. In the presence of potassium hydroxide, the re...

In vivo administration of isatin (200 mg/kg) significantly lowered the activity of rat kidney alkaline phosphatase after 5 hr but enhanced the activity of rat duodenal and jejunal enzyme after 2 and 5 hr (P less than 0.01). The increased activity of the duodenal and jejunal alkaline phosphatase might be due to the induction of the enzyme by isatin.

Testosterone acetate thiosemicarbazone (TATSC, 17-beta-hydroxyandrost-4-one acetate thiosemicarbazone) was synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray structure determination. The copper and platinum complexes of this steroid derivative were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopy and electrochemiatry. The in vitro activity of these compounds against human breast cancer cell lin...
