We study the stochastic fractional diffusive limit of a kinetic equation involving a small parameter and perturbed by a smooth random term. Generalizing the method of perturbed test functions, under an appropriate scaling for the small parameter, and with the moment method used in the deterministic case, we show the convergence in law to a stochastic fluid limit involving a fractional Laplacian.

We use the discrete kinetic theory with the free-orientation parameter being fixed (π/4) to derive the macroscopic velocity field for many particles flowing through a microdomain. Our results resemble qualitatively other hydrodynamical solutions. The V-shaped velocity field changes as the dominant physical parameter (Knudsen number) varies. We also briefly discuss the possible mechanism due to ...

Values of enzyme kinetic parameters are a key requisite for the kinetic modelling of biochemical systems. For most kinetic parameters, however, not even an order of magnitude is known, so the estimation of model parameters from experimental data remains a major task in systems biology. We propose a statistical approach to infer values for kinetic parameters across species and enzymes making use...

We investigate the effect of drift kinetic damping on the resistive wall mode (RWM), due to the mode resonance with magnetic precession drifts and/or bounce motion of bulk plasma thermal particles. A self-consistent toroidal drift kinetic model is developed and incorporated into the MHD code MARS-F [Y.Q. Liu, et al., Phys. Plasmas 7, 3681 (2000)]. The new code (MARS-K) is used to study the RWM ...

PET is an appropriate method to display the functional activities in target tissue using many types of traces. The visual assessment of PET images plus the semiquantitative parameter (SUV) are the main diagnostic standards considered in identifying the malignant lesion. However, these standards lack occasionally the proper specificity and/or sensitivity. That emphasizes the importance of consid...

UNLABELLED Kinetic (or compartment) modeling is a highly versatile tool for the analysis of experiments within living systems. In PET, it is essential for developing tracers, for assessing tracer behavior and for extracting quantitative information about the target process. However, tools to support the modeling tasks involved are not easily available. METHODS This article presents a requirem...

Excilamps are new UV sources with great potential for application in wastewater treatment. In the present work, a XeBr excilamp emitting radiation at 283 nm has been used for the photodegradation of 4-chlorophenol within a range of concentrations from 50 to 500 mg L. Total removal of 4-chlorophenol was achieved for all concentrations assayed. The two main photoproduct intermediates formed along...

A kinetic priority queue is a kinetic data structure which determines the largest element in a collection of continuously changing numbers subject to insertions and deletions. Due to its importance, many different constructions have been suggested in the literature, each with its pros and cons. We propose a simple construction that takes advantage of randomization to achieve optimal locality an...

The system of shallow water waves is one of the classical examples for nonlinear, twodimensional conservation laws. The paper investigates a simple kinetic equation depending on a parameter " which leads for " ! 0 to the system of shallow water waves. The corresponding 'equilibrium' distribution function has a compact support which depends on the eigenvalues of the hyperbolic system. It is show...

A fluid–kinetic hybrid electron model for electromagnetic simulations of finite-b plasmas is developed based on an expansion of the electron response using the electron–ion mass ratio as a small parameter. ~Here b is the ratio of plasma pressure to magnetic pressure.! The model accurately recovers low frequency plasma dielectric responses and faithfully preserves nonlinear kinetic effects ~e.g....
