The Mesopotamian invention of suspended narratives in mineral pigment and glaze produced in the fifteen thousand year old ‘new technology’ of the ceramic tile sets the scene for my talk for EVA 2010 (and this published paper which is intended to act as a prologue to that talk). It was this invention, a mass-produced media technology with the limit of a prototype glass screen that allowed commen...

To study the effect of different cooling rates after glaze firing on Radius of radial crack, Fracture toughness and Microhardness of Alumina reinforced porcelain. Total 30 porcelain discs reinforced with aluminium oxide of 8mm diameter×0.6mmthickness were prepared. Specimens were divided into three groups, each group containing ten discs. They were positioned at the entrance of the furnace with...

Where and when glass production began is uncertain. It is thought by some that the first glass was probably developed in the Mitannian or Hurrian region of Mesopotamia, possibly as an extension of the production of glazes (*5000 BCE) [1]. Around this same time, a new material called faience was developed, which was produced by utilizing a variety of techniques to create a glaze layer over a sil...

OBJECTIVE This study tested whether the two-body wear of monolithic zirconia and their corresponding enamel antagonists was higher compared to monolithic alloy and veneered zirconia. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cylindrical specimens (N = 36, n = 6) were prepared out of (A) veneered zirconia (VZ), (B) glazed zirconia using a glaze ceramic (GZC), (C) glazed zirconia using a glaze spray (GZS), (D) man...

Abstract This study identified the provenance of Pb flux used in production glaze unique, high‐quality late medieval stove tiles from northern part Carpathian Basin, and elaborated evaluated a fast preparation process to measure isotope ratios high‐Pb glazes. We compared three different methods preparation. Method 1 consisted dissolution bulk chips glaze, dilution solution mass spectrometric an...

Techniques and calculations are presented that give explicit expressions for the over-all performance of a luminescent solar concentrator (LSC) in terms of the intrinsic spectral response and quantum efficiency of its constituents. We examine the single dye (or inorganic ion) LSC with emphasis on the planar geometry. Preliminary data on the degradation of candidate LSC dyes under severe weather...

Using optical tweezers combined with luminescence measurements we detected the optical field around two optically trapped silica microspheres partially covered by metal. By monitoring the luminescence of rhodamine 6G we were able to observe an increase of the local field intensity owing to the coupling of the local surface plasmons at the surfaces of two spheres.

We propose a multiple beam illumination scheme to control the intensity of the light emitted by a thin luminescent layer. The experiment is designed to get as close as possible to the condition of Coherent Perfect Absorption (CPA) at a wavelength at which the absorption coefficient of the luminescent layer is low, and it is realized by externally acting on the phase difference between the incid...
