An implantable MEMS piezoelectric transducer for middle ear hearing aids was developed. The physical vibration properties are simulated using finite element method. A study of thermoelastic damping effect of four designed MEMS mirrors is presented. An optical measurement system based on Mach-Zehnder interferometer is developed, and the accuracy of this system is tested.

A novel Mach-Zehnder interferometer terminated at two different frequencies realizes in a quantum regime the nonlinear frequency conversion of optical quantum superposition states. The information-preserving character of the relevant unitary transformation has been experimentally demonstrated for input qubits and ebits. Besides its own intrinsic fundamental interest, the new scheme is expected ...

We describe the realization of a phase-sensitive and ultrafast near-field microscope, optimized for investigation of surface plasmon polariton propagation. The apparatus consists of a homebuilt near-field microscope that is incorporated in Mach-Zehnder-type interferometer which enables heterodyne detection. We show that this microscope is able to measure dynamical properties of both photonic an...

A broadband, Mach-Zehnder-interferometer based silicon optical modulator is demonstrated, with an electrical bandwidth of 26 GHz and V(pi)L of 4 V.cm. The design of this modulator does not require epitaxial overgrowth and is therefore simpler to fabricate than previous devices with similar performance.

We demonstrate a Linearized Ring Assisted Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (L-RAMZI) modulator in a miniature silicon device. We measure a record high degree of linearization for a silicon device, with a Spurious Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) of 106dB/Hz²/³ at 1GHz, and 99dB/Hz²/³ at 10GHz.

We describe in detail the first experimental test that distinguishes between an event-based corpuscular model of the interaction of photons with matter and quantum mechanics. The test looks at the interference that results as a single photon passes through a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The experimental results, obtained with a low-noise single-photon source, agree with the predictions of stand...

We present a detailed theoretical investigation of the coherence properties of beam splitters and Mach-Zehnder interferometers for guided neutral atoms. We show that such a setup permits coherent wave packet splitting and leads to the appearance of interference fringes for both single-mode and thermal input states, evidencing thus the robustness of the interferometer.

We describe a novel pulse-delayed scheme to realize degenerate optical parametric amplification in chi((3)) planar waveguides. The scheme utilizes two identical birefringent plates placed before and after a chi((3)) planar waveguide to implement a single-arm, pulse-multiplexed nonlinear Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Using this scheme, we demonstrate ultrafast degenerate optical parametric amplif...

A novel quadrature interferometer based on Mach–Zehnder configuration and a 3 × 3 fibre coupler is presented. Measurements showing instantaneous extraction of both real and complex parts of the interferometric signal are described. The features of this quadrature interferometric platform are discussed with a focus on signal-to-noise ratio and optical power handling.

The four Rindler quadrants of a pair of oppositely accelerated frames are identified as a (Lorentzian) Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The Rindler frequency dependence of the interference process is expressed by means of a (Lorentzian) differential cross section. The Rindler frequencies of the waves in the two acccelerated frames can be measured directly by means of a simple inertially moving dete...
