Plate motion and associated tectonics explain the location of magmatic systems along plate boundaries [1], however, they cannot give satisfactory explanations of the origin of intra‐ plate volcanism. Intraplate magmatism such as that which created the Hawaiian Islands (Figure 1, hereafter for the location of geographical places the reader is referred to Figure 1) far from plate boundaries is co...

Fumarolic condensates and acid spring waters from Satsuma-Iwojima were sampled between 1993 and 1998 and analyzed for 129I/I and 36Cl/Cl ratios and chloride, bromine, and iodine concentrations. Halogen concentrations suggest that the fumarolic condensates represent mostly magmatic fluids, but that the hot springs are a mixture between magmatic fluids and meteoric water with some presence of sea...

The ophiolitic complex of Sahneh-Harsin is composed of rock units such as gabbro, basalt, diabasic dikes, diorite and plagiogranite. The geochemical studies show that primitive magma has been sub-alkaline tholeiitic Mg-rich and K-poor. These data show enrichment of light rare earth elements (LREE) and depletion of heavy rare earth (HREE). The ratio of NbTa in the basalts is between 16.19 and 18...

Incheh granitoid intrusive body is located in east of Heris, East-Azarbaidjan. It intruded the older rock units including the Sonajil sub-volcanic stock (upper Eocene-lower Oligocene) of micro-diorite porphyry composition. The Incheh intrusive ranges in composition from diorite through syeno-diorite to quartz-diorite. The major constituent minerals include plagioclase, hornblende, and pyroxene ...

Using Dawn's Gamma Ray and Neutron Detector, we tested models of Vesta's evolution based on studies of howardite, eucrite, and diogenite (HED) meteorites. Global Fe/O and Fe/Si ratios are consistent with HED compositions. Neutron measurements confirm that a thick, diogenitic lower crust is exposed in the Rheasilvia basin, which is consistent with global magmatic differentiation. Vesta's regolit...

Quartz is a common phase in high-silica igneous rocks and is resistant to post-eruptive alteration, thus offering a reliable record of magmatic processes in silicic magma systems. Here we employ the 75 ka Toba super-eruption as a case study to show that quartz can resolve late-stage temporal changes in magmatic δ18O values. Overall, Toba quartz crystals exhibit comparatively high δ18O values, u...

the borujerd complex of western iran is composed of intrusions and their surrounding contact aureole, with, pegmatites and quartz veins. pegmatites differ in mineralogy, origin and age, and two groups can be distinguished. the older pegmatites (about 120 ma age) intruded contact metamorphic rocks from the early magmatic stage, while the younger pegmatites (52-70 ma age) formed during the late m...

Five granitic rocks, concentrically disposed from core to rim, were distinguished in the Castelo Branco pluton. U-Pb-Th electron microprobe monazite ages from granitic rocks are similar and ranging between 297-303 Ma. The granitic rocks from Castelo Branco pluton are 310 ± 1 Ma old, obtained by U-Pb (ID-TIMS) in separated zircon and monazite crystals, indicating a similar emplacement age for al...

A program of geologic mapping and lithogeochemical and geochronological sampling has been carried out over a 745-km area of the Atacama Desert surrounding the porphyry Cu deposits at Escondida, Zaldívar, and Chimborazo (Cordillera de Domeyko, northern Chile). The purpose of this study was to examine the regional tectonic and magmatic setting of this preeminent porphyry Cu district for evidence ...
