BACKGROUND The majority of established techniques for monitoring real-time PCR amplification involve individual target-specific fluorogenic probes. For analysis of numerous different targets the synthesis of these probes contributes to the overall cost during assay development. Sequence-dependent universal detection techniques overcome this drawback but are prone to detection of unspecific ampl...

Heterochromatin at the pericentromeric repeats in fission yeast is assembled and spread by an RNAi-dependent mechanism, which is coupled with the transcription of non-coding RNA from the repeats by RNA polymerase II. In addition, Rrp6, a component of the nuclear exosome, also contributes to heterochromatin assembly and is coupled with non-coding RNA transcription. The multi-subunit complex Medi...

Semantically relatedmediators form a hierarchical structure based on the definition of views in each mediator, since a view in a mediator is defined by views in other mediators or base tables in several local information servers. A global query is transformed into a set of its sub-queries; and, each subquery is the unit of evaluation in an information server or a child mediator. Therefore, it i...

The interaction of activators with mediator has been proposed to stimulate the assembly of RNA polymerase II (Pol II) preinitiation complexes, but there have been few tests of this model. The finding that the major adenovirus E1A and mitogen-activated protein kinase-phosphorylated Elk1 activation domains bind to Sur2 uniquely among the metazoan mediator subunits and the development of transcrip...

What is it? The Mediator complex is an enormous, multi-subunit protein complex that regulates gene expression in eukaryotic cells. It acts as a molecular circuit board that integrates physiological and developmental signals and transmits them to RNA polymerase II (Pol II), the enzyme charged with transcription of all protein-encoding genes. Although initially discovered as a cofactor required f...

This paper deals with PICSEL mediator systems which integrate services. We propose a scalable approach which exploits standardized specifications provided by normalization organisms. The paper focuses on the use of such specifications to automate the construction of the mediator. An illustration in the tourism domain with OTA specifications is given.
