Motility and membrane deformation are crucial to motile cells. Therefore formation of protrusion in the membrane has been the subject of various studies. The stable shape of the membrane and also its movements are controlled by the forces exerted by actin filaments. In order to study the protrusion behavior, we represented a toy model based on actin filaments polar characteristic and elastic ch...

Two methods are proposed to evaluate the second-order elastic constants of quantum mechanically treated solids. One method is based on path-integral simulations in the NVT ensemble using an estimator for elastic constants Ci j . The other method is based on simulations in the NpT ensemble exploiting the relationship between strain fluctuations and elastic constants. The strengths and weaknesses...

In this paper we investigate, both experimentally and theoretically, the competition between different failure mechanisms (stretching, bending and curvature l ocalization) in freestanding submicron thin films commonly used in micro-electromechanical systems. Micro structures made of elastic -brittle materials such as ultrananocrystalline diamond, diamond like carbon and silicon nitride, as well...

Monte Carlo simulation is used to study the elastic properties of the classical hard sphere solid. The elastic constants C 11 ,C 12 , and C 44 are computed for the fcc lattice structure at the melting density. Poisson's ratio is computed and is shown to be positive. Thesèexact' results are compared with those of simple models of the hard sphere solid.

Abstract We formulate an active-gel theory for multicellular migration in the extra-cellular matrix (ECM). The cells are modeled as active, polar solvent, and ECM a viscoelastic solid. Our enables to analyze dynamic reciprocity between migrating their environment terms of distinct relative forces alignment mechanisms. linear stability homogeneously ECM. predicts that, consequence cell-matrix al...

This paper describes dexterous multi-fingered manipulation using a novel fingertip equipped with a soft elastic cover and a solid nail. The soft elastic cover of the fingertip enables changing friction coefficient at the contact with an object. The solid nail enables detecting a very small step of sub-millimeter on a smooth surface.

In this research, wave propagation analysis in polymeric smart nanocomposite micro-tubes reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) conveying fluid is studied. The surrounded elastic medium is simulated by visco-Pasternak model while the composite micro-tube undergoes electro-magneto-mechanical fields. By means of micromechanics method, the constitutive structural coefficients of nano...

A micro-channel heat exchanger reactor with different micro-baffle shapes has been studied numerically. Governing equations were solved base on the finite volume method with FLUENT software. In upper section, oxidation reaction of methanol was occurred and in lower section, steam reforming of methanol was done. Two sections were separated with solid part which played as heat exchanger and trans...

The canonical problem of the diffraction of a transient elastic plane wave by a semiinfinite fluid-filled crack in an unbounded, homogeneous, isotropic, dispersive solid is considered. The dispersion properties of the solid (and its associated loss mechanism) are accounted for by general, global relaxation functions that meet the causality criterion and encompass the influence of frictional for...

Freestanding single-crystal complete nanorings of zinc oxide were formed via a spontaneous self-coiling process during the growth of polar nanobelts. The nanoring appeared to be initiated by circular folding of a nanobelt, caused by long-range electrostatic interaction. Coaxial and uniradial loop-by-loop winding of the nanobelt formed a complete ring. Short-range chemical bonding among the loop...
