PURPOSE This study determined the vertical response of class III patients in the primary, mixed, and late mixed dentition phases fitted with a protraction mask and expansion. METHODS The before and after cephalometric records of 112 patients divided by sex were analyzed at ages 3 to 6, > 6 to 9 and > 9 to 12 years to assess the vertical changes. Data was correlated by means of paired t tests ...
Materials and methods: A 10-year-old male patient, in the mixed dentition stage, presented with anterior crossbite, Class I skeletal base with an ANB angle of 1 degree, retroclined maxillary incisors and an anterior mandibular slide from the point of initial contact to maximum intercuspation. A modified quad helix appliance, made of 0.036" Blue Elgiloy with anterior extension arms, was fabricat...
In this retrospective investigation, the changes occurring during the treatment of patients with posterior crossbite in the mixed dentition with the use of expansion plate and quad-helix appliances were evaluated and compared with those resulting from growth and development occurring in a control group of patients of similar age and type of malocclusion. The expansion plate group consisted of 1...
Early treatment for Class II malocclusion was undertaken with the objective of correcting skeletal disproportion by altering the growth pattern. A case of Class II, Division 1 malocclusion in the mixed dentition was corrected to Class I molar relationship using orthopedic cervical headgear, with nonextraction edgewise therapy. Cephalometric analysis indicated a reduction in the maxillomandibula...
PURPOSE To evaluate the cranial posture on lateral teleradiographs of children with atypical swallowing in mixed dentition. METHODS By using cephalometric analysis on lateral teleradiographs, the angles between the odontoid process and cranial base (CC1) and the odontoid process and Frankfurt plane (CC2) were measured in two groups: 55 teleradiographs from the experimental group (with atypica...
Of the most common odontogenic cysts, radicular cysts represent cystic lesions of inflammatory origin and are managed either by surgical enucleation or by marsupialization. This article aims to report a clinical case of radicular cyst of a huge proportion treated with a conservative management. An illustration of possible complete healing of such a cystic periapical lesion in mixed dentition wi...
Inflammatory dentigerous cysts are usually associated with a carious or non-vital primary tooth. Consequently they are found in children with a mixed dentition. This report describes two cases of inflammatory dentigerous cysts associated with the lower second premolars. Both cases were treated by marsupialisation of the cysts that eventually led to the spontaneous eruption of the premolars.
BACKGROUND The aim of this randomised clinical trial was to assess the effect of early orthodontic treatment in contrast to normal growth effects for functional unilateral posterior crossbite in the late deciduous and early mixed dentition by means of three-dimensional digital model analysis. METHODS This randomised clinical trial was assessed to analyse the orthodontic treatment effects for ...
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the facial profile changes induced by Balters' bionator appliance in Class II division 1 patients, at mixed dentition stage. METHODS The sample consisted of 28 pre-pubertal individuals at stages 1 and 2 of skeletal maturation (CVM), which were divided into two groups. The experimental group consisted of 14 individuals (7 boys and 7 girls, in...
OBJECTIVE To add to the data for long-term reverse pull headgear (RPHG) outcomes and further explore possible variables that could be predictors of long-term failure. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cephalometric radiographs of 41 Class III malocclusion children treated with RPHG (face mask) were evaluated before and immediately after treatment; at 5 years posttreatment; and, for 18 patients, at 10 yea...
