BACKGROUND Muscle relaxant agents usually use to facilitate tracheal intubation; however, sometimes limitations exist. Magnesium (Mg) sulfate is a candidate for muscle relaxant substitute. This study was designed to determine the effect of Mg sulfate accompanied with propofol and fentanyl in patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS In a double-blind randomized protocol an...
Distinct parasympathetic postganglionic neurons mediate contractions and relaxations of the guinea pig airways. We set out to characterize the vagal inputs that regulate contractile and relaxant airway parasympathetic postganglionic neurons. Single and dual retrograde neuronal tracing from the airways and esophagus revealed that distinct, but intermingled, subsets of neurons in the compact form...
Two quinoline alkaloids, japonine (1) and eduline (2) were isolated from the methanol extract of the leaves of Orixa japonica as relaxants against rat small intestine muscle. The activity of these alkaloids was comparable to that of the typical muscle relaxant papaverine (4). This is also the first report of the isolation of eduline (2) from O. japonica.
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a pharmacogenetic clinical syndrome that occurs in patients with preexisting abnormal skeletal muscle. It manifests clinically as a hypermetabolic crisis when a MH-susceptible individual is exposed to an inhalational anesthetic or a depolarizing muscle relaxant (ie, succinylcholine). © 2007 Elsevier Inc.
