The present work describes modifications to an existing TLC bioautographic method for detecting acetylcholinesterase inhibitors from plant extracts. The basic principle of the method is that the enzyme converts 1-naphthyl acetate into naphthol which reacts with Fast Blue B salt to make a purple-colored background on the TLC plates. Inhibitors of acetylcholinesterases produced white spots on the...

Five 8-(4-R-phenyl)-1-naphthol derivatives were prepared by PdCl(2)-catalysed electrophilic aromatic substitution. The pK(a)' values for these 1,8-disubstituted arene naphthols have been measured in acetonitrile/water (R = NO(2), 8.42; R = Cl, 8.52; R = H, 8.56; R = Me 8.68; and R = OMe, 8.71) and indicate a correlation with the electronic nature of the arene substituent, as determined through ...

In the title compound, C(17)H(11)ClN(2)O(3), an intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond influences the mol-ecular conformation; the naphthol system and the substituted benzene ring form a dihedral angle of 3.5 (1)°. In the crystal, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into chains in the [010] direction The crystal packing exhibits π-π inter-actions between the aromatic rings fr...

In general, for the histochemical demonstration of peroxidase , b enzidine, naphthol, and leuco-dyes are utilized in the prosence of hydrogen peroxide. Among these , the technical modifications of the benzidine-peroxide method are the most numerous . Alpha-naphthol has been used less often than benzidine . Application of the leucodye method for animal tissues is remarkably limited and this meth...

1,1,3-Triarylpent-4-en-1-yn-3-ols, efficiently obtained in two steps from 1,1,3-triarylprop-2-yn-1-ols by a Meyer-Schuster rearrangement and subsequent addition of lithium trimethylsilylacetylide, react with either a 1- or 2- naphthol to afford photochromic 1,1-diarylvinyl substituted naphtho[1,2-b]- or naphtho[2,1-b]-pyrans respectively. Irradiation of solutions of these naphthopyrans results ...

The title compound, C(28)H(28)N(2)O(4), crystallizes in a zwitterionic form with deprotonated naphthol hy-droxy groups and protonated imine N atoms. The asymmetric unit contains one half-mol-ecule located on a twofold rotation axis. Intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds occur and the two bicyclic ring systems form a dihedral angle of 64.2 (1)°. In the crystal, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen...

In this paper, the strength and kinetics of two charge-transfer complexes, naphthol-methylviologen and pyrene-methylviologen, are studied using dynamic force spectroscopy. The dissociation rates indicate an enhanced stability of the pyrene-methylviologen complex, which agrees with its higher thermodynamic stability compared to naphthol-methylviologen complex.

We present a computer program that is capable of fitting n-fold torsional barriers Vn (n = 2-6) and torsional constants F simultaneously to high- and low-resolution spectroscopic data of different isotopomeric internal rotors. The program has been utilized to fit independently barriers and torsional constants for both electronic states of several aromatic clusters. The constant F of the ammonia...

OBJECTIVE To determine the DNA damaging potential and the genotoxicity of individual compounds in pesticide contaminated soil. METHODS In the present study, DNA damaging potential of pesticide-contaminated soil and the genotoxicity of individual compounds present in the soil were assessed using fluorimetric analysis of DNA unwinding assay. RESULTS The contaminated soil sample showed 79% (P ...
