An image processing technique is described for the detection of mines in IR imagery. The proposed technique is based on a third-order neural network, which processes the output of a wavelet packet transform. The technique is inherently invariant to changes in signature position, rotation and scaling. The well-known memory limitations that arise with higher-order neural networks are addressed by...

This article presents PAPRICA-3, a VLSI-oriented architecture for real-time processing of images and its implementation on HACRE, a high-speed, cascadable, 32-processors VLSI slice. The architecture is based on an array of programmable processing elements with the instruction set tailored to image processing, mathematical morphology, and neural networks emulation. Dedicated hardware features al...

An in-store experiment was performed to investigate the effects of shelf placement (high, middle, low) on consumers' purchases of potato chips. Placement of potato chips on the middle shelf was associated with the highest percentage of purchases. The results confirm the importance of item placement as a factor in consumers' buying behavior.

Artificial neural network paradigms have shown the capabilities of performing input-output mapping operations even where the transformation rules are not formally defined, are partially known, or are ill-defined. For high speed processing of such information, hardware implementation sarerequired. At the Jet propulsion Laboratory (JPL), reconfigurable and cascadable building block chips have bee...

This paper presents some simpliications to our recently introduced \CoDi-model", which we use to evolve Cellular Automata based neural network modules for ATR's artiicial brain project \CAM-Brain" 11]. The great advantage of CAs as a modeling medium, is their paral-lelism, which permits neural system simulation hardware based on CoDi to be scaled up without loss of speed. Simulation speed is cr...
