We define and studyco-Noetherian dimension of rings for which the injective envelopeof simple modules have finite Krull-dimension. This is a Moritainvariant dimension that measures how far the ring is from beingco-Noetherian. The co-Noetherian dimension of certain rings, including commutative rings, are determined. It is shown that the class ${mathcal W}_n$ of rings with co-Noetherian dimension...
On the basis of the Klingler–Levy classification of finitely generated modules over commutative noetherian rings we approach the old problem of classifying finite commutative rings R with decidable theory of modules. We prove that if R is (finite length) wild, then the theory of all R-modules is undecidable, and verify decidability of this theory for some classes of tame finite commutative rings.
A ring R is radical if there is a ring S (with unit) such that R = J (S) (the Jacobson radical). We study the commutative subdirectly irreducible radical rings and show that such a ring is noetherian if and only if is finite. We present a reflection of the commutative radical rings into the category of the commutative rings and derive a lot of examples of the subdirectly irreducible radical rin...
The method of Gröbner bases in commutative polynomial rings introduced by Buchberger (e.g. [1]) is a well-known and very important tool in polynomial ideal theory, for example in solving the ideal membership problem. XIDEAL extends the method to exterior algebras using algorithms from [2] and [3]. There are two main departures from the commutative polynomial case. First, owing to the non-commut...
Let R be a ring with unity. The graph Γ(R) is a graph with vertices as elements of R, where two distinct vertices a and b are adjacent if and only if Ra + Rb = R. Let Γ2(R) is the subgraph of Γ(R) induced by the non-unit elements. H.R. Maimani et al. [H.R. Maimani et al., Comaximal graph of commutative rings, J. Algebra 319 (2008) 1801-1808] proved that: “If R is a commutative ring with unity a...
A ring R is called an E-ring if the canonical homomorphism from R to the endomorphism ring End (RZ) of the additive group RZ, taking any r ∈ R to the endomorphism left multiplication by r turns out to be an isomorphism of rings. In this case RZ is called an E-group. Obvious examples of E-rings are subrings of Q. However there is a proper class of examples constructed recently, see [8]. E-rings ...
We determine the number of edges of the zero-divisor graph of the direct product of finitely many finite non-commutative rings or semigoups.
Commutative differentially simple rings have proved to be quite useful as a source of examples in non-commutative algebra. In this paper we use the theory of holomorphic foliations to construct new families of derivations with respect to which the polynomial ring over a field of characteristic zero is differentially simple.
We introduce canonical bases for subalgebras of quotients of the commutative and non-commutative polynomial ring. The usual theory for Gröbner bases and its counterpart for subalgebras of polynomial rings, also called SAGBI bases, are combined to obtain a tool for computation in subalgebras of factor algebras.
Sums of dth powers in central simple algebras and other non-commutative rings are investigated. MSC 2000: 11E76 (primary); 11E04, 12E05 (secondary)
