Differentiation of pluripotent embryonic stem (ES) cells through multipotent neural stem (NS) cells into differentiated neurons is accompanied by wholesale changes in transcriptional programs. One factor that is present at all three stages and a key to neuronal differentiation is the RE1-silencing transcription factor (REST/NRSF). Here, we have used a novel chromatin immunoprecipitation-based c...

Complete nucleotide sequence of the non-structural gene of the human influenza virus strain A/WS/33.
A/WS/33 is an important strain of influenza A virus because it represents both the first isolate of human influenza virus (1) and the only strain, with the possible exception of A/Mel/35, to yield stable neurotropic variants, A/NWS/33 (2) and A/WSN/33 (3). Reassortant experiments with WSN have indicated three influenza genes, including the non-structural (NS) gene, are necessary to express full...
We consider a holographic model constructed through using the D4/D8-D8 brane configuration with a NS-NS background field. We study some properties of the effective field theory in this intersecting brane construction, and calculate the effects of this NS-NS background field on some underlying dynamics. We also discuss some other general brane configurations.
The standard notion of NS-NS 3-form flux is lifted to Hitchin’s generalized geometry. This generalized flux is given in terms of an integral of a modified Nijenhuis operator over a generalized 3-cycle. Explicitly evaluating the generalized flux in a number of familiar examples, we show that it can compute three-form flux, geometric flux and non-geometric Q-flux. Finally, a generalized connectio...
Noonan syndrome (NS) is among the most common nonchromosomal disorders affecting development and growth. NS is genetically heterogeneous, being caused by germline mutations affecting various genes implicated in the RAS signaling network. This network transduces extracellular signals into intracellular biochemical and transcriptional responses controlling cell proliferation, differentiation, met...
Netherton syndrome (NS) is a severe autosomal recessive skin disease characterized by compromised barrier, hair shaft defects, chronic inflammation and allergy. NS caused loss-of-function mutations in the serine peptidase inhibitor Kazal type 5 (SPINK5) gene. Constitutive Spink5 knock-out mice reproduce phenotype, but die within few hours after birth. Here we describe generation of viable, epid...
The Escherichia coli H-NS protein is a major nucleoid-associated protein that is involved in chromosomal DNA packaging and gene regulatory functions. These biological processes are intimately related to the DNA supercoiling state and thus suggest a direct relationship between H-NS binding and DNA supercoiling. Here, we show that H-NS, which has two distinct DNA-binding modes, is able to differe...
