We describe an optical transmission line that consists of an array of wavelength-scale optical disk resonators coupled to an optical waveguide. Such a structure leads to exotic optical characteristics, including ultraslow group velocities of propagation, enhanced optical nonlinearities, and large dispersion with a controllable magnitude and sign. This device supports soliton propagation, which ...

We investigate the propagation of optical solitons interacting with linear defects in the medium. We show that solitons exhibit a wave-particle dualism versus power, i.e., depending on the relative size of soliton and defect, responsible for a soliton trajectory dependent on its waist.

We study semianalytically soliton dynamics in a soliton-based communication line for which the amplifier spacing is larger than the soliton period (referred to as the quasi-adiabatic regime). This regime allows us to overcome the limit on the soliton duration (TFWHM , 15 ps) imposed by the average-soliton regime. Our calculations show that periodically stable propagation of short solitons (TFWH...

We describe an iterative method that extracts the underlying soliton from a noisy pulse. The method is formulated as a functional iteration: at each step, the soliton component of the difference between the noisy pulse and the current underlying soliton is determined via soliton perturbation theory; this is then added to the soliton, and the process is repeated. We show that this iteration conv...

We demonstrate the existence of a broad class of higher-order rotating spatial solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media. We employ the generalized Hermite-Laguerre-Gaussian ansatz for constructing multivortex soliton solutions and study numerically their dynamics and stability. We discuss in detail the tripole soliton carrying two spiraling phase dislocations, or self-trapped optical vortices.

We study the interaction of an optical vortex soliton with a dark-soliton stripe in a bulk nonlinear defocusing medium. We develop a multiscale asymptotic theory to predict the main effect of the interaction and then study it experimentally, observing vortex-induced stripe bending, development of the transverse instability, and stripe breakup.

We address soliton spiraling in optical lattices induced by multiple coherent Bessel beams and show that the dynamic nature of such lattices makes it possible for them to drag different soliton structures, setting them into rotation. We can control the rotation rate by varying the topological charges of lattice-inducing Bessel beams.

We propose a setup to observe soliton ratchet effects using discrete cavity solitons in a 1D array of coupled waveguide optical resonators. The net motion of solitons can be generated by an adiabatic shaking of the holding beam with zero average inclination angle. The resulting soliton velocity can be controlled by different parameters of the holding beam.

We discuss the properties of composite (or vector) spatial optical solitons created by the incoherent interaction of two optical beams and associated with higher-order modes guided by a soliton-induced waveguide in a bulk medium. Such stationary (2 1 1)-dimensional self-trapped localized structures include, in particular, vortexand dipole-mode vector solitons and also incorporate higher-order m...

The intra-channel collision of optical solitons, with dual-power law nonlinearity, is studied in this paper by the aid of quasi-particle theory. The perturbation terms that are considered in this paper are of Hamil-tonian type. The suppression of soliton-soliton interaction, in presence of these perturbation terms, is acheived. The numerical simulations support the quasi-particle theory.
