Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) have attracted increasing interest because of their excellent properties such as strong photoluminescence, excellent biocompatibility and low cost. Herein, we develop a general method for the synthesis of doped and undoped GQDs, which relies on direct carbonization of organic precursors in the solid state.

Organosulfates are components of secondary organic aerosols (SOA) that form from oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the presence of sulfate. In this study, the composition and abundance of organosulfates were determined in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) collected from Centreville, AL, during the Southern Oxidant and Aerosol Study (SOAS) in summer 2013. Six organosulfates were qu...

Ansa-cyclodextrins were obtained in high yields by reaction of sodium sulfide with A,B-di- or A,B,D,E-tetramesylated alpha-CD precursors; the resulting thiocavitands are suitable for forming nanotubular molecules, as well as for hosting metal-organic fragments.

The solution-phase synthesis of high quality LaOBr nanocrystals has been realized by single source precursors under the assistance of an organic salt (TBAB) and characterized by XRD and TEM. The unique crystallization process of LaOBr NCs is demonstrated and dictated by the amidation reaction. The X-ray luminescence of (Tm, Tb, Eu)-doped LaOBr NCs has also been characterized.

Atomic/molecular layer deposition offers us an elegant way of fabricating crystalline copper(ii)terephthalate metal-organic framework (MOF) thin films on various substrate surfaces. The films are grown from two gaseous precursors with a digital atomic/molecular level control for the film thickness under relatively mild conditions in a simple and fast one-step process.

Nitrogen-containing molecules are key scaffolds that are widely applied in organic synthesis as precursors of highly functionalized materials, and are also investigated for their biological activities. This Special Issue collects seven innovative contributions which expand our knowledge of the chemistry of nitro compounds, amines, diazonium salts, and peptides, and that provide a good overview ...

Formation and use of a nitrogen dianion for selective hydrazine alkylation is reported. The scope and limitations of a new method were demonstrated. The novel method provides fast and easy access to substituted hydrazines, which are widely used as drugs, pesticides, and precursors for a variety of compounds in organic synthesis. We studied synthesis of Ni or Fe nanoparticle-loaded multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by pyrolyzing metal organic salts with CaH2, a very strong reductant. The use of CaH2 lowered the formation temperature of MWCNTs down to 400 °C without the use of toxic halogen-containing precursors and assistance of plasma.

Nitrogen-doped graphene/graphene-tube nanocomposites are prepared by a hightemperature approach using a newly designed cage-containing metal-organic framework (MOF) to template nitrogen/carbon (dicyandiamide) and iron precursors. The resulting N-Fe-MOF catalysts universally exhibit high oxygen-reduction activity in acidic, alkaline, and non-aqueous electrolytes and superior cathode performance ...

Monodisperse CuInS(2) nanocrystals are produced by injecting mixed metal-oleate precursors into hot organic solvents containing the dissolved sulphur sources. A better understanding of the formation mechanism of CuInS(2) has enabled us to tailor anisotropic shapes in the form of triangular-pyramid, circular cone, and bullet-like rods with tunable crystal phases by varying the synthetic conditions.
