BACKGROUND Oviducts participate in fertilization and early embryo development, and they are influenced by systemic and local circulation. Local functional interplay between ovary, oviduct and uterus is important, as deduced from the previously observed differences in hormone concentrations, presence of sperm, or patterns of motility in the oviduct after unilateral ovariectomy (UO). However, the...

Purpose: To compare effects of polarized epithelial monolayer prepared from human oviduct and uterus on mouse one and two-cell embryo development. Materials and Methods: Human oviduct and endometrial tissue was obtained from patients who had undergone total hysterectomy. The epithelial cells were isolated from tissue and cultured on extracellular matrix (ECM) Gel coated Millipore filter insert...

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate protective effects of melatonin on uterus and fallopian tube in female mice under treatment with nicotine. Materials and Methods: Adult Female mice were divided into four groups. Group A: control animals received normal saline, group B: were injected with nicotine 40 μg/kg. Group C:were injected with melatonin, 10 μg/ night. Group D:were injecte...

Erythropoietin (EPO) is produced in the brain, uterus, and oviduct. Brain EPO plays a neuroprotective role, and uterine EPO is likely involved in estrogen-dependent angiogenesis. Hypoxic induction of brain EPO markedly differs from that in the kidney. EPO in the uterus and oviduct is estrogen inducible.

The molecular mechanisms controlling fluid secretion within the oviduct have yet to be determined. As in other epithelia, both secretory and absorptive pathways are likely to work in tandem to drive appropriate ionic movement to support fluid movement across the oviduct epithelium. This study explored the role of potassium channels in basolateral extracellular ATP (ATP(e))-stimulated ion transp...

In bovine oviduct cells 17beta-oestradiol can induce the synthesis of leukaemia inhibitory factor (LIF), a glycoprotein essential for embryo implantation. Therefore substances which are structurally similar to 17beta-oestradiol and possess oestrogenic activity may also modulate LIF synthesis and influence the reproductive process. We used primary cultures of bovine and human oviduct cells (epit...

We report the preparation of HMG17-containing oligonucleosomes from chicken embryos and from liver and oviduct of laying hens. Monoclonal antibodies against HMG17 were used for their isolation. An unusual size distribution with respect to their repeat number was observed. The oligonucleosomes of repeat number up to N6 were highly enriched for DNA of the vitellogenin II gene (liver) and for DNA ...

Objective: Oviducts or fallopian tubes are smooth muscle lined dynamic tubular organs that connect the ovaries to the uterus and facilitate several physiological processes including gamete transport, fertilization and early embryo development. Several stages of the reproductive process occur exclusively within the oviduct and are subject to physiological regulation. The four main functions of t...

Mouse female genital tract was transfected in vivo using the ss-galactosidase reporter gene. To transfect the female tract, DNA/liposome complexes were injected through the infundibulum of the oviducts of adult, immature, and pseudopregnant females. Females which were in different stages of the ovarian cycle were also employed. Transfection was analysed using histochemical, immunological and mo...
