In situ inactivation of soil Pb is an alternative to soil removal and replacement that has been demonstrated in recent years at industrial sites with hazardous soil Pb concentrations. Most children exposed to elevated soil Pb, however, reside in urban areas, and no government programs exist to remediate such soils unless an industrial source caused the contamination. Modern regulated biosolids ...

We formulate and study a mechanical instability criterion for sudden hadronization of dense matter fireballs formed in 158A GeV Pb-Pb collisions. Considering properties of quark-gluon matter and hadron gas we obtain the phase boundary between these two phases and demonstrate that the required deep quark-gluon-plasma supercooling prior to sudden hadronization has occurred.

Lead is a potent environmental toxin that has accumulated above its natural level as a result of human activity. Pb cation shows major affinity towards protein complexation and it has been used as modulator of protein-membrane interactions. We located the binding sites of Pb(II) with human serum (HSA) and bovine serum albumins (BSA) at physiological conditions, using constant protein concentrat...

Cotton is cultivated worldwide for its white fiber, of which around 90% is tetraploid upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) carrying both A and D genome. Since centuries, yield increasing efforts for the cotton crop by conventional breeding approaches have caused an extensive erosion of natural genetic variability. Mutation based improvement strategies provide an effective way of creating new a...

Introduction: Many lunar samples record some degree of disturbance to their U-Pb isotopic systematics [e.g., 1,2]. This disturbance may be reflected in Pb-Pb, U-Pb, U-Pb, or concordia ages that are discordant among the U-Pb systems as well as with more robust Sm-Nd and Rb-Sr ages. Both mare basalt 10017 and norite 78238 fail to yield consistent geochronologic results among their Pb-Pb, U-Pb, an...

We present a new multielement masking method using magnesium hydroxide coprecipitation for the selective determination of Pb by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV). The recovery of Pb in the masking method was over 95%, while interfering ions (Cd(2+), Co(2+), Cu(2+), Fe(3+), Mn(2+), and Ni(2+)) could be removed at 100% from the analytical sample. A linear regression was obta...

Two lead (Pb)-resistant endophytic bacteria were isolated from rape roots grown in heavy metal-contaminated soils and characterized. A pot experiment was conducted for investigating the capability of the two isolates to promote the growth and Pb uptake of rape from Pb-amended soil. The two isolates were identified as Pseudomonas fluorescens G10 and Microbacterium sp. G16 based on the 16S rDNA g...

The fluctuations in pseudorapidity density are well described by Fritiof and IRIS, model for a bulk of the data at a few high multiplicity events remain unexplained. In these events, the estimated energy density is within the range of values predicated for the onset of the deconfinement phase transition. It is important to know whether fluctuations are, in fact, of statistical nature or geometr...

Ultrathin metal coordination Prussian blue (PB) nanoribbons with tunable width have been successfully synthesized. The morphology and microstructure of PB nanoribbons are characterized using UV-vis, FT-IR, AFM, TEM and XRD. PB nanoribbons synthesized possess an ultrathin thickness of approximately 1 nm and narrow width. The width of PB ribbons can be tuned by varying the chain length of polymer...

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) can affect the bioavailability of heavy metals in soil, especially in soils used for vegetable production, where intensive organic fertilization is applied. The present study examined the effects of DOM derived from commercial organic fertilizers (COF), cow manure (COM) and chicken manure (CHM), on uptake and translocation of lead (Pb) in Brassica chinensis in a p...
