Peyronie's disease can cause severe physical and psychological distress. Of 31 cases in this retrospective study, 12 underwent spontaneous improvement in their symptoms which makes the assessment of active treatment in other patients difficult. The indications and limitations of operative approach are discussed.
Penile strangulation is a challenge to urologists. The decompression of the penis is required to prevent long-term complications. Metal objects are difficult to remove. Cutting is the most common method described. Appropriate cutting tools may be difficult to obtain, and the process may be time-consuming with the possibility of iatrogenic penile injury. In this paper, we will present a simple m...
Penile strangulation by metal ring is a rare urological emergency situation which requires urgent decompression of the penis to avoid adverse effect. It is usually associated with an attempt to improve sexual act and/or to prolong erection. But sometimes, cutting of the ring to decompress the penis safely is a very difficult task particularly when the strangulating object is a hard metal object...
A case of penile abscess after amphetamine injection into the penis is reported. A 45-year-old male patient was successfully treated with surgical drainage and antibiotics. There were no 3-month consequences of treatment at follow-up, and the patient maintained potency, without any penile deformity. The aetiology, diagnosis, and management of penile abscesses are discussed.
Before these two studies the published data on penile implant surgery consisted mostly of single-surgeon small series and retrospective experiences, rather than prospective, large, multicenter data collection [3-7]. Accordingly, it has been advocated the creation of prospective databases i.e. clinical data registries also to monitor more accurately the results of surgery, and to have solid grou...
Penile traction therapy has traditionally been implemented to increase penile length but has recently been investigated for reducing the curvature associated with Peyronie's disease. The results of a few initial investigations have been conflicting, and further research is needed to confirm the true benefit of such therapy and its potential role in treating Peyronie's disease as both a monother...
The natural history of Peyronie's disease was evaluated in 97 men by means of a questionnaire. Disease duration ranged from 3 months to 8 years. Questions addressed pain, bending, ability for intercourse, over-all effect of the disease, psychological effects, treatments received and degree of disease progression. Approximately 40% of the patients found pain, bending, ability for intercourse and...
INTRODUCTION Correction of penile curvature by corporal rotation enabled the correction of 90 degrees ventral curvature with neither shortening nor erectile dysfunction. However, some limitations were described, and only one case was reported upon. AIM This work described a 3-year experience with corporeal rotation, the modifications addressing and eliminating its drawbacks and limitations, a...
MAIN FINDINGS A 26-year-old man suffering from partial priapism was successfully treated with a regimen including pentoxifylline, a nonspecific phosphodiesterase inhibitor that is often used to conservatively treat Peyronie's disease. CASE HYPOTHESIS: Partial priapism is an extremely rare urological condition that is characterized by thrombosis within the proximal segment of a single corpus cav...
