The LREX' prostate cancer model is resistant to the antiandrogen enzalutamide via activation of an alternative nuclear hormone receptor, glucocorticoid receptor (GR), which has similar DNA-binding specificity to the androgen receptor (AR). Small molecules that target DNA to interfere with protein-DNA interactions may retain activity against enzalutamide-resistant prostate cancers where ligand-b...

PURPOSE Polyamide polymers do not provide sufficient bond strength to auto-polymerized resins for repairing fractured denture or replacing dislodged denture teeth. Limited treatment methods have been developed to improve the bond strength between auto-polymerized reline resins and polyamide denture base materials. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of surface modifica...

In this paper, we demonstrate the use of synthetic polyamide probes to fluorescently label heterochromatic regions on human chromosomes for discrimination in cytogenetic preparations and by flow cytometry. Polyamides bind to the minor groove of DNA in a sequence-specific manner. Unlike conventional sequence-specific DNA or RNA probes, polyamides can recognize their target sequence without the n...

BACKGROUND Three-ring polyamides containing N-methylimidazole and N-methylpyrrole amino acids bind sequence-specifically to double-helical DNA by forming side-by-side complexes in the minor groove. Simple pairing rules relate the amino-acid sequence of a pyrrole-imidazole polyamide to its expected DNA target site, and polyamides that target a wide variety of DNA sequences have been synthesized....

Novel fatty acyl and phospholipid derivatives of pyrrole polyamide were synthesized. Their cytotoxicity against a cancer cell line of MT-4 cells and those infected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was examined. Although no anti-HIV activity was found, their cytotoxicitty against the cancer cells was significantly enhanced by introducing a lipophilic group into the pyrrole polyamide.

The application of fibers to reinforce cementitious materials is a well-known subject. At first, asbestos fibers are used in industrial process to produce fiber reinforced cement sheets. Thereafter, various types of synthetic fibers are produced and used as asbestos substitutes. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the effect of synthetic fibers on the flexural behavior of cementitious co...

Polyamide denture base materials are more flexible than the commonly used poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). However polishability of polyamides has not been examined adequately. This study investigated the surface roughness (Ra) and clinical acceptability of samples of a polyamide denture base material and PMMA fabricated by injection moulding and traditional heat processing systems, respectiv...
