Uredospores of Puccinia graminis (Pers.) tritici (Eriks. and Henn.) were uniformly labeled with (14)C by permitting the host (Triticum aestivum L.) to carry out photosynthesis in (14)CO(2) during the process of spore production by the obligate parasite. The use of (14)C labeled spores provided advantages in a study of the utilization of endogenous substrates at frequent intervals with small amo...

Pseudomonas aureofaciens Q2-87 produces the antibiotic 2,4-diacetophloroglucinol (Phl), which inhibits Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici and other fungi in vitro. Strain Q2-87 also provides biological control of take-all, a root disease of wheat caused by this fungus. To assess the role of Phl in the antifungal activity of strain Q2-87, a genetic analysis of antibiotic production was conduct...

Stripe rust of wheat, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici, continues to cause severe damage worldwide. Durable resistance is necessary for sustainable control of the disease. High-temperature adult-plant (HTAP) resistance, which expresses when the weather becomes warm and plants grow older, has been demonstrated to be durable. We conducted numerous studies to understand the molecular ...

stem rust caused by puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici (pgt) is one of the destructive diseases of wheat in the world. the fungal pathogen can infect 365 different grass and more than 70 berberis species. dna sequences for the ribosomal rna internal transcribed spacer (its) have proven suitable to explore relationships at the species and subspecies levels. an isolate of pgt which was collected fr...

Lecanicillium psalliotae is an entomopathogenic, mycoparasitical, and nematophagous fungus known to produce antibiotic and antifungal compounds. Here, we report the first 36-Mb draft genome sequence of L. psalliotae strain HWLR35. The draft genome contains 197 scaffolds and is predicted to have 11,009 protein-coding genes.

Puccinia psidii sensu lato (s.l.) is an invasive rust fungus threatening a wide range of plant species in the family Myrtaceae. Originating from Central and South America, it has invaded mainland USA and Hawai'i, parts of Asia and Australia. We used CLIMEX to develop a semi-mechanistic global climatic niche model based on new data on the distribution and biology of P. psidii s.l. The model was ...

Diversity of resistance to leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina can be enhanced in wheat (Triticum aestivum) cultivars through a better knowledge of resistance genes that are present in important cultivars and germplasm. Multi-pathotype tests on 84 wheat cultivars grown in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden during 1992-2002 and 39 differential testers enabled the postulation of nine known ge...
