In this paper, we have studied the strain, band-edge, and energy levels of cubic InGaAs quantum dots (QDs) surrounded by GaAs. It is shown that overall strain value is larger in InGaAs-GaAs interfaces, as well as in smaller QDs. Also, it is proved that conduction and valence band-edges and electron-hole levels are size dependent; larger QD sizes appeared to result in the lower recombination...

the one photon absorption (opa) cross section of a current carrying two-orbital quantum dot (qd) with strong electron-phonon interaction (polaron regime) is considered. using the self-consistent non-equilibrium hartree-fock (hf) approximation, we determine the dependence of opa cross section on the applied bias voltage, the strength of effective electron-electron interaction, and level spacing ...

We report growth and room temperature continuous wave operation of InAs quantum-dot microdisk lasers grown on nominal (001) silicon substrates. The active structure containing five layers of InAs/GaAs quantum dots was grown by MBE on a GaAs-on-v-grooved-Si (GoVS) template produced by MOCVD. Microdisk lasers with 4 μm diameters showed continuous wave lasing at room temperature with thresholds on...

PURPOSE To develop and validate an optical imaging nanoprobe for the discrimination of epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor (EGFR)-overexpressing tumors from surrounding normal tissues that also expresses EGFR. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN Near-infrared (NIR) quantum dots (QD) were coupled to EGF using thiol-maleimide conjugation to create EGF-QD nanoprobes. In vitro binding affinity of these nanopr...

It has been known for a long time that the fluorescence intensity of colloidal quantum dots (QDs) becomes modified when free ions are added to the QD solution. The consequences of removing free ions from the QD solution, however, have not been closely investigated. In this work we studied fluorescence from 3-mercaptopropionic acid (3-MPA) coated CdSe−CdS/ZnS core−multishell QDs when free Ca ion...

Functional quantum dot (QD)-based nanostructures are often constructed through the self-assembly of QDs with binding partners (molecules or other nanoparticles), a process that leads to a statistical distribution of the number of binding partners. Using single QD fluorescence spectroscopy, we probe this distribution and its effect on the function (electron-transfer dynamics) in QD-C60 complexes...

It is well known that quadrant dependent (QD) random variables are also quadrant dependent in expectation (QDE). Recent literature has offered examples rigorously establishing the fact that there are QDE random variables which are not QD. The examples are based on convex combinations of specially chosen QD copulas: one negatively QD and another positively QD. In this paper we establish general ...

Improvements in quantum dot light-emitting device (QD-LED) performance are achieved by the choice of organic charge transporting layers, by use of different colloidal QDs for the different parts of the visible spectrum, and by utilizing a recently demonstrated robust QD deposition method. Spectrally narrow electroluminescence of our QD-LEDs is tuned over the entire visible wavelength range from...
