Since alterations in pulmonary hemodynamics may lead to airway hyperreactivity, the consequences of individual changes in pulmonary blood flow (Qp) and capillary pressure (Pc) on lung responsiveness were investigated. During maintenance of a steady-state Pc of 5, 10, or 15 mmHg (groups 1-3), acute increases of Qp were generated in isolated, perfused rat lungs by simultaneous pulmonary arterial ...

Explicit solutions to constrained linear MPC problems can be obtained by solving multi-parametric quadratic programs (mp-QP) where the parameters are the components of the state vector. We study the properties of the polyhedral partition of the state-space induced by the multiparametric piecewise linear solution and propose a new mp-QP solver. Compared to existing algorithms, our approach adopt...

Let Ep be an elliptic curve over a prime finite field Fp, p ≥ 5, and Pp, Qp ∈ Ep(Fp). The elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem, ECDLP, on Ep is to find mp ∈ Fp such that Qp = mpPp if Qp ∈ 〈Pp〉. We propose an algorithm to attack the ECDLP relying on a Hasse principle detecting linear dependence in Mordell-Weil groups of elliptic curves via a finite number of reductions.

The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) EBNA1 gene promoter active in the type I program of restricted viral latency was recently identified and shown to reside in the viral BamHI Q fragment. This promoter, Qp, is active in a wide variety of cell lines and has an architecture reminiscent of eukaryotic housekeeping gene promoters (B. C. Schaefer, J. L. Strominger, and S. H. Speck, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. US...

Classical (Bayesian) probability (CP) theory has led to an influential research tradition for modeling cognitive processes. Cognitive scientists have been trained to work with CP principles for so long that it is hard even to imagine alternative ways to formalize probabilities. However, in physics, quantum probability (QP) theory has been the dominant probabilistic approach for nearly 100 years...

BACKGROUND The recent introduction of the automated cardiac flow measurement (ACM) method, using spatiotemporal integration of the Doppler velocity profile, provides a quick and accurate automated calculation of cardiac output. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the ACM method against oximetry during cardiac catheterisation for estimating the Qp/Qs (pulmonary to systemic flow) ratio in patients with an at...

BACKGROUND Perioperative management of patients with complete mixing of pulmonary and systemic blood centers on approximately equating pulmonary (Qp) and systemic (Qs) blood flow (Qp/Qs approximately 1). This empirically derived target is opposed by theoretical studies advocating a target Qp/Qs well below 1. We studied the cause of this persistent discrepancy. METHODS AND RESULTS Classic theo...

We describe a branch and bound algorithm for the quadratic assignment problem QAP that uses a convex quadratic programming QP relaxation to obtain a bound at each node The QP subproblems are approximately solved using the Frank Wolfe algorithm which in this case requires the solution of a linear assignment problem on each iteration Our branching strategy makes extensive use of dual information ...
