with Stage I and II disease there is excessive mortality per unit time as compared to the control population for at least 10 years after treatment. Thus, while the above definition is acceptable, the lag period required for the evaluation of potentially curative treatment is very long. In an attempt to determine the presence and degree of curative treatment in a shorter time, the relapse-free i...
Foregut-derived cysts are uncommon lesions, particularly when located below the diaphragm. When so encountered, they enter into the differential diagnosis of upper retroperitoneal masses. We report a case of such a lesion presenting as a pancreatic mass and review the current literature on this topic.
Primary retroperitoneal mucinous tumor (PRMT) of low malignant potential (border line) is an uncommon neoplasm with fewer than 50 reported cases. Uncertain diagnostic imaging results make diagnosis of its origin difficult, preoperatively. Later treatment planning and prognosis would be affected by exact diagnosis of the tumor origin. This study presents a case of Persian woman with diagnostic, ...
We report a case of a rapidly progressing giant retroperitoneal liposarcoma weighing 22 kg in a 41-year-old Japanese man, successfully treated with surgical excision. To our knowledge, this is the largest liposarcoma in the Japanese population reported in the literature.
Liposarcoma is one of the most common primary neoplasms in the retroperitoneum, whereas primary mesenteric liposarcomas are rare. We encountered a case of liposarcoma which arose from the mesentery of the jejunum that was diagnosed by imaging studies before surgical operation.
retroperitoneal fibrosis (rpf) is a rare condition with an unclear etiology, presenting with the development of aberrant chronic nonspecific fibroinflammatory tissue in the retroperitoneal space, which can result in entrapment and obstruction of the retroperitoneal structures. rpf is a subtype of chronic periaortitis, and can be divided into two types: primary (or idiopathic) and secondary. rpf...
Abdomino-scrotal hydrocele (ASH) is a very rare clinical entity. It is an unusual condition, in which there is an hourglass communication between a large hydrocele and the retroperitoneal space, through the inguinal canal. First described by Dupuytren in 1834 and defined by Bickle in 1919, the condition is rarely seen. Surgical management usually involves excision of the sac as the definitive t...
BACKGROUND There is little knowledge on retroperitoneal sarcoma, but there are many controversies. The objective of the current study was to define the common and distinctive features of primary and secondary retroperitoneal sarcomas in terms of presentation, prognostic and therapeutic approach to improve the current management of these tumors. Vascular involvement impact was assesed in the two...
Hemangiopericytomas are rare vascular tumours that are derived from pericytes. Retroperitoneal hemangiopericytomas are usually bulky but clinically silent when diagnosed because of their slow rate of growth. A 49-year-old man, who presented with only vague symptoms of abdominal fullness for several months, was found on computed tomography to have a huge well-defined mass with areas of low atten...
Retroperitoneal ganglioneuroma is a rare benign tumor, which is included in the neuroblastomas group. It can occur anywhere along the peripheral autonomic ganglion sites, and the tumor is often incidentally detected in asymptomatic patients or may produce symptoms related to the slow growing tumor. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice and the prognosis is good. We report a case of retro...
