Recently, work on rotating losses in magnetic bearings has focused mainly on the measurement of rotating losses, and on the creation of models that attempt to reproduce these results. Though there has been some success on both counts, there has been less emphasis on interpreting what these results mean in terms of practical guidelines for the design of low-loss bearings. The present work reform...
The Newman-Janis algorithm has been widely used to construct rotating black hole solutions from non-rotating counterparts. While this algorithm was developed within General Relativity, it has more recently been applied to non-rotating solutions in modified gravity theories. We find that the application of the Newman-Janis algorithm to an arbitrary non-GR spherically-symmetric solution introduce...
We study rotating waves in the Theta model for a ring of synaptically-interacting neurons. We prove that when the neurons are oscillatory, at least one rotating wave always exists. In the case of excitable neurons, we prove that no travelling waves exist when the synaptic coupling is weak, and at least two rotating waves, a ‘fast’ one and a ‘slow’ one, exist when the synaptic coupling is suffic...
In the current project a rotating dual sensor probe has been designed and fabricated. A set of measurements were performed using the rotating dual sensor. Analysis on the results occurred, and it showed that the rotating dual sensor with the supporting algorithm has an acceptable, reliable and repeatable performance for measurements in multiphase flows.
The dynamics and the transition to the centrifugal regime are studied analytically and numerically for particles in rotating drum. The importance of the particle-wall friction coefficient is demonstrated by studying first the motion of one non-rotating particle where three different regimes are found in the transition to the centrifugal motion. When a few rotating particles are considered, they...
Originally developed by NASA as high performance piston alloys to meet U.S. automotive legislation requiring low exhaust emission, the novel NASA alloys now offer dramatic increase in tensile strength for many other applications at elevated temperatures from 450°F (232°C) to about 750°F (400°C). It is an ideal low cost material for cast automotive components such as pistons, cylinder heads, cyl...
The present investigation finds the relationship between selected Anthropometric variables and performance of university level Volleyball Players. For the purpose of the study, thirty (N=30) volleyball players were selected as subjects from the North Zone Inter-University Volleyball Tournament. The selected Anthropometric measurements were taken with the help of vernier calipers and lange’s ski...
BACKGROUND Rotating night shift work imposes circadian strain and is linked to the risk of several chronic diseases. PURPOSE To examine associations between rotating night shift work and all-cause; cardiovascular disease (CVD); and cancer mortality in a prospective cohort study of 74,862 registered U.S. nurses from the Nurses' Health Study. METHODS Lifetime rotating night shift work (define...
We have examined the stability of a sequence of oblate elliptical galaxy models having the Stäckel form suggested by Kuz’min & Kutuzov. We have employed the 2-integral DFs given by Dejonghe & de Zeeuw for which flattened non-rotating models are characterized by counter-streaming motion and are radially cool; we introduce net rotation in some models by changing the sign of the z-component of ang...
We prove that the equation modelling an annular Josephson junction has a rotating fluxon wave solution for all values of the parameters. We also obtain results on uniqueness of the rotating fluxon wave in some parameter regimes, and on multiplicity of rotating fluxon waves in other parameter regimes.
