The asymmetric unit of the title salt, C(28)H(28)O(3)P(+)·Cl(-)·H(2)O, contains a benzyl-triphenyl-phospho-nium cation, a chloride counter-ion, and a water mol-ecule of crystallization. The 3,4,5-trimeth-oxy substituents of the benzylic functionality are arranged with the 3,5-methyl groups lying approximately in the aromatic ring plane while the 4-methyl group is out of the plane.
We discuss the phase behavior and in particular crystallization of a model globular protein (beta-lactoglobulin) in solution in the presence of multivalent electrolytes. It has been shown previously that negatively charged globular proteins at neutral pH in the presence of multivalent counterions undergo a ‘‘re-entrant condensation (RC)’’ phase behavior (Zhang et al., Phys. Rev. Lett., 2008, 10...
Understanding the dynamics of precipitation and crystallization as salt solutions evaporate from porous media is importance in context preservation historical monuments, understanding soil nutrient content, design evaporators for use distillation plants. Transient advection-diffusion equations govern mass fraction profile solution inside medium. These governing are solved to obtain solute withi...
The research aims to study Sabkha mineralogy determine the mineral types, nature of precipitation, and patterns salt crystallization. Two Sabkhas in Abu Ghraib, west Baghdad, were studied. It was found that formed flat ponds from saturated solutions a semi-arid arid climate. Halite predominates, followed by anhydrite gypsum as evaporite minerals. As for minerals soil, it consisted feldspar, cal...
The penetration of salt into porous materials is known to have deleterious effects, often resulting in fracture. The damage process begins with a saline solution penetrating the porous network by way of capillary action. This is followed by supersaturation of the saline solution, which may result in the formation of salt crystals. In turn, these salt crystals induce pressure on the pore walls. ...
Efflorescence refers to crystallized salt structures that form at the surface of a porous medium. The challenge is to understand why these structures do not form everywhere at the surface of the porous medium but at some specific locations and why there exists an exclusion distance around an efflorescence where no new efflorescence forms. These are explained from a visualization experiment, por...
The use of dual polarization interferometry (DPI) as a tool for probing the different possible outcomes of protein crystallization experiments is described. DPI is a surface analytical technique used for the characterization of structure and interactions of molecular layers on an optical waveguide surface for a wide range of applications, including protein-protein interactions and conformationa...
We present a DSC and X-ray scattering study investigating the effect of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) block crystallinity on self-assembly poly(acryloisobutyl silsesquioxane)-b-poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(acryloisobutyl silsesquioxane) (POSS-PEO-POSS) triblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)-b- (PEO-POSS) diblock copolymers mixed with lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide salt...
Urate oxidase from Asperigillus flavus has been shown to be a model protein for studying the effects of polyethylene glycol (PEG) on the crystallization of large proteins. Extensive experimental studies based on small angle x-ray scattering [Vivares and Bonnete, J. Phys. Chem. B 108, 6498 (2004)] have determined the effects of salt, pH, temperature, and most importantly PEG on the crystallizati...
