Platelet activation is important in hypertension‑induced cardiac inflammation and fibrosis. P-selectin expression significantly (P<0.05) increases when platelets are activated during hypertension. Although P‑selectin recruits leukocytes to sites of inflammation, the role of P‑selectin in cardiac inflammation and fibrosis remains to be elucidated. The present study aimed to investigate whether p...

The article by Abboud et al. investigating the outcome of neuromyelitis optica (NMO) relapses treated by steroids alone or in association with plasma exchange (PLEX) demonstrates a better outcome in PLEX-treated attacks with a higher proportion of patients improving to baseline Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS): 65% vs 35%. Considering the high level of significance of their results, they...

We prove that P-sel, the class of all P-selective sets, is EXPimmune, but is not EXP/1-immune. That is, we prove that some infinite P-selective set has no infinite EXP-time subset, but we also prove that every infinite P-selective set has some infinite subset in EXP/1. Informally put, the immunity of P-sel is so fragile that it is pierced by a single bit of information. The above claims follow ...

Foreword The Software Engineering Laboratory (SEL) is an organization sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA/GSFC) and created to investigate the effectiveness of software engineering technologies when applied to the development of applications software. The SEL was created in 1976 and has three primary organizational members: The goals ...

Spinal epidural lipomatosis (SEL) results from an abnormal accumulation of unencapsulated fat within the epidural space and is a rare cause of spinal cord compression, which needs to be considered with a high index of suspicion. It most commonly occurs secondary to chronic corticosteroid use and endocrinopathies. Idiopathic cases are highly associated with obesity. We report an unusual case of ...

an elevated lesion covered with normal mucosa is observed during endoscopy, the endoscopist would be suspicious of the presence of a mass underneath the mucosa and calls it a subepithelial lesion (SEL). However, SEL may be a true intramural mass underneath the mucosa or an extralumi-nal compression mimicking an intramural mass. For the evaluation of SEL, endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is cons...

a r t i c l e i n f o A pre-and post-test quasi-experimental design was used to test the impact of a 30-week, theoretically-based social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum, The RULER Feeling Words Curriculum (" RULER "), on the academic performance and social and emotional competence of 5th and 6th grade students (N = 273) in fifteen classrooms in three schools. Academic performance was as...

Overgrowth of epidural fat, known as spinal epidural lipomatosis (SEL), can cause symptomatic compression of the spinal cord, conus medullaris, or cauda equina. Suggested predisposing factors such as obesity, steroid use, and diabetes mellitus have been based on a few reported cases, many of which were not surgically confirmed. There is a paucity of epidemiological data in surgically confirmed ...

k-plexes are cohesive subgraphs which were introduced to relax the structure of cliques. A co-k-plex is the complement of a k-plex and is therefore similar to a stable set. This paper derives the co-2-plex analogue for certain properties of the stable set polytope. We also describe a class of 0-1 matrices A for which the polytope {x ∈ R+ | Ax ≤ 2, x ≤ 1} is integral.
