Background: and Objectives: Salmonella infections are endemic in many developing countries with poor sanitary conditions, but emerge sporadically as a serious public health threat in developed countries. Infections with multidrug resistant (MDR) strains of Salmonella have been associated with treatment failures. Salmonella spp. resistant to extended spectrum cephal...

The purpose of this study was to analyse the profile of antimicrobial resistance among 21 strains of Salmonella isolated from patients with gastroenteritis symptom. It was observed that S. enteritidis was the serotype prevalent. These strains were sensitive to the majority of the antimicrobials tested, however, high resistance was observed in S. typhimurium and S. enterica subsp. enterica serot...

Salmonella enterica serotype Newport is an important cause of salmonellosis, with strains increasingly being resistant to multiple antimicrobial agents. The increase is associated with the acquisition of multiple resistance genes. This study characterizes the genetic basis of resistance of serotype Newport isolates collected from veterinary sources by PCR and DNA sequencing analysis.

Fifty E. coli strains isolated from chicken flocks were analyzed to determine their resistance to antimicrobial agents used in Tehran poultry industry. By using Mast Diagnostic kit only O6 serotype was identified. Multiple resistance to antibiotics was observed in all isolates. The highest rate of resistance was against Tetracycline (94%), followed by Rifampicin (90%), and Oxytetracycline (80%)...

After 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) for children was introduced in Japan in November 2010, we examined changes in Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes and in genetic antimicrobial drug resistance of isolates from adults with invasive pneumococcal diseases. During April 2010-March 2013, a total of 715 isolates were collected from adults with invasive pneumococcal diseases. Seven-va...

The presence of integrons in 85 multiresistant German isolates of the predominating Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Paratyphi B dT(+) clone was investigated. All isolates possessed a chromosomally located Tn7-like class 2 integron carrying the same dfrA1-sat1-aadA1 array of gene cassettes. Only four isolates (4.7%) revealed an additional class 1 integron with two strains each contai...

Salmonella enterica serotype Dublin is a cattle-adapted bacterium that typically causes bloodstream infections in humans. To summarize demographic, clinical, and antimicrobial drug resistance characteristics of human infections with this organism in the United States, we analyzed data for 1968-2013 from 5 US surveillance systems. During this period, the incidence rate for infection with Salmone...

Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) plays a major role in bacterial microevolution as evident from the rapid emergence and spread of antimicrobial drug resistance. Few studies have however addressed the population dynamics of newly imported genetic elements after HGT. Here, we show that newly acquired class-1 integrons from Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium and Acinetobacter baumannii, free of...
