We consider a convex polygonal heat conductor whose inscribed circle touches every side of the conductor. Initially, the conductor has constant temperature and, at every time, the temperature of its boundary is kept at zero. The hot spot is the point at which temperature attains its maximum at each given time. It is proved that, if the hot spot is stationary, then the conductor must satisfy two...
When an alternating electric current flows through a conductor (wire), Electric-E and Magnetic-H fields are created around the conductor. If the length of the conductor is very short compared to a wavelength (<< λ/4), the electric and magnetic fields will decrease dramatically within a distance of one or two wavelengths. However, as the conductor is lengthened, the intensity of the fields...
OBJECTIVE Safety concerns about the Riata ICD shock lead were recently raised, with insulation failure due to conductor externalisation. Its incidence and presentation were assessed, and predictors of insulation failure and lead survival of the Riata 1580-1582 were studied, retrospectively, before the official recall. METHODS All 374 patients at the Erasmus Medical Center between July 2003 an...
A new molecular conductor of (TMTSF)5[Dy(NCS)4(NO3)2]CHCl3 was prepared using the electrochemical oxidation method. The complex crystallizes in Cmc21 (36) space group, where partially-oxidized TMTSF molecules form a 1D (one-dimensional) column structure. crystal shows semiconducting behavior with room temperature conductivity 0.2 S·cm−1 and an activation energy 34 meV at ambient pressure.
A single-component molecular crystal [Pd(dddt)2] has been shown to exhibit almost temperature-independent resistivity under high pressure, leading theoretical studies propose it as a three-dimensional (3D) Dirac electron system. To obtain more experimental information about the high-pressure electronic states, detailed measurements were performed, which show behavior at 13 GPa and then an uptur...
Close to the Mott transition, lattice degrees of freedom react to the softening of electron degrees of freedom. This results in a change of lattice spacing, a diverging compressibility, and a critical anomaly of the sound velocity. These effects are investigated within a simple model, in the framework of dynamical mean-field theory. The results compare favorably to recent experiments on the lay...
