Solid-state reactions of dicyclopalladated azobenzenes and triphenylphosphine lead to the thermodynamically favorable bridged complexes. It was demonstrated for the first time that very complex molecular dynamics involving a series of structural transformations is also feasible in the solid state.

Inorganic borohydrides are actively studied in view of potential hydrogen storage applications. These compounds can be obtained by a variety of reactions ranging from high temperature reactions of the elements to exchange reactions in solution or in solid state. Different approaches will be discussed and compared.

Polyethylene glycol was easily grafted to silica gel and used as a solid–liquid phase transfer catalyst in the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds. This silica-grafted polyethylene glycol is proved to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst in the reduction of nitroarenes to the corresponding aromatic amines with zinc powder in water. The reduction reactions proceeded efficiently with exce...

Solvent-free Claisen-Schmidt reactions of cycloalkanones with various substituted benzaldehydes (aryl aldehydes) using solid NaOH (20 mol%) and applying a grinding technique were studied. Quantitative yields (96-98%) of α,α'-bis-(substituted-benzylidene)cycloalkanones were obtained. Aliphatic aldehydes also provided α,α'-bis-(substituted-alkylidene)cycloalkanones in very good yields with minor ...

In this work, sawdust, a biomass waste, is converted into a magnetic porous carbonaceous (MPC) solid acid catalyst by an integrated fast pyrolysis-sulfonation process. The resultant magnetic solid acid has a porous structure with high surface area of 296.4 m(2) g(-1), which can be attributed to the catalytic effect of Fe. The catalytic activity and recyclability of the solid acid catalyst are e...

Recently, self-organized magnetic arrays (SOMAs) have received a great deal of attention because of the potential of achieving magnetic data storage densities greater than 1Tbit/in. SOMA involves the chemical preparation of selfassembled arrays of alloyed nanoparticles (such as FePt), which can be subsequently annealed to form an L10 high magnetocrystalline anisotropy chemically ordered phase. ...

The current interest in solid-phase organic synthesis has led to a renewed interest in a complementary technique in which solid supported reagents are used in solution phase chemistry. This technique obviates the need for attachment of the substrate to a solid-support, and enables the chemist to monitor the reactions using familiar analytical techniques. The purpose of this review is to increas...
