Iron-containing spinels, also known as ferrospinels, are widely used catalysts for the water gas shift (WGS) reaction. The catalytic activity of spinels containing transition metal ions as dopants or modifiers is influenced by the acid base and redox properties of these ions as well as by their site occupancy amongst the octahedral and tetrahedral sites in the spinel structure. It has been esta...

Batteries based on multivalent ions such as magnesium have been attracting considerable attention due to their potential for high energy densities, but low ion mobility remains an obstacle. Herein, ionic conductivity in spinel host materials, which represent a promising class of cathode and solid-electrolyte materials batteries, is addressed. Based periodic density functional theory calculation...

J. Burja, F. Tehovnik, F. Vode, B. Arh, Institute of Metals and Technology, Ljubljana, Slovenia In this chromium slags that form during melting of chromium alloyed steels are examined. During melting and oxidation of these steel grades a considerable amount of chromium is lost, and gained back with slag reduction. Laboratory experiments were performed to study the mechanism of chromium oxide re...

Introduction The extreme surface sensitivity of Low Energy Ion Scattering (LEIS) enables a nondestructive (static) and quantitative analysis of the outermost atoms of the surface. Using highsensitivity LEIS low loadings of the active phase on a highly dispersed support can be detected [1]. For oxidic spinels it was found that only the cations that are present in the octahedral sites are at the ...

Subsolidus phase relationships in the Ga2O3–SnO2–ZnO system were determined at 1250 ◦C using solid state synthesis and X-ray powder diffraction. The two spinels, Zn2SnO4 and ZnGa2O4, formed a complete solid solution. The optical band gap of the spinel varied with composition from 3.6 eV (Zn2SnO4) to 4.7 eV (ZnGa2O4). All samples were white and insulating except those containing Ga-doped ZnO. Th...
