We describe under various conditions abelian subgroups of the automorphism group Aut(Tn) of the regular n-ary tree Tn, which are normalized by the n-ary adding machine τ = (e, . . . , e, τ)στ where στ is the n-cycle (0, 1, . . . , n− 1). As an application, for n = p a prime number, and for n = 4, we prove that every soluble subgroup of Aut(Tn), containing τ is an extension of a torsion-free met...
A ring $A$ is (principally) nilary, denoted (pr-)nilary, if whenever $XY=0,$ then there exists a positive integer $n$ such that either $X^n=0$ or $Y^n=0$ for all (principal) ideals $X$, $Y$ of $A$. We determine necessary and/or sufficient conditions the group $A[G]$ to be nilary in terms on $G$. For example, we show that: (1) If (pr-)nilary and $G$ prime order each finite nontrivial normal subg...
1. We say that g(n) is additive if g(mn)=g(m)+g(n) holds for every coprime pairs m, n of positive integers . If, moreover, g(p') =g(p)' for every prime power pa , then g(n) is called strongly additive . By p, pi , p2 , . . ., q, qr , q2 , . . . we denote prime numbers, c, Cl, c2i . . . are suitable positive constants . F(n) and x(n) denote the largest and the smallest prime factor of n . The sy...
This is a toy example to illustrate some of the techniques of fusion and transfer as described in Gorenstein’s text Finite Groups. Finite groups with a unique subgroup of order p (p an odd prime) are classified in terms of a cyclic p′-extension of relatively simple combinatorial data. This note is intended to address a slightly misstated exercise in somewhat more detail and to be a toy example ...
In this paper we provide a bound for the linear complexity of the so-called NaorReingold sequence of elements in a finite prime field. This sequence is presented in [4] as a primitive for crytptographic protocols. For a prime p, we denote by Fp the field with p elements and identify them with the integers in the range {0, . . . , p− 1}. We write Fp for the group of units in this field. Let p, t...
Let F be the function field of a smooth curve over the p-adic number field Qp. We show that for each prime-to-p number n the n-torsion subgroup H(F, μn) = nBr(F ) is generated by Z/n-cyclic classes; in fact the Z/n-length is equal to two. It follows that the Brauer dimension of F is two (first proved in [20]), and any F -division algebra of period n and index n is decomposable.
in this paper, various elementary properties of vague rings are obtained. furthermore, the concepts of vague subring, vague ideal, vague prime ideal and vague maximal ideal are introduced, and the validity of some relevant classical results in these settings are investigated.
It is well-known that two modular forms on the same congruence subgroup and of the same weight, with coefficients in the integer ring of a number field, are congruent modulo a prime ideal in this integer ring, if the first B coefficients of the forms are congruent modulo this prime ideal, where B is an effective bound depending only on the congruence subgroup and the weight of the forms. In thi...
