In this paper, a fully polarimetric analysis method is introduced to decompose synthesized Interferometric SAR images into sub-aperture data sets, which correspond to the scene responses under different azimuthal look-angles. A statistical analysis of polarimetric parameters permits to clearly discriminate media showing a non-stationary polarimetric behavior during the SAR integration. A method...
Modern digital correlators permit the simultaneous measurement of all four Stokes parameters using auto and crosscorrelation. We briefly outline the fundamental requirements and some practical details of performing such measurements and refer to two additional papers that provide overview and cover calibration issues in detail. Subject headings: polarization — instrumentation: polarimeters — te...
Few circumstellar disks have been directly observed. Here we use sensitive differential polarimetric techniques to overcome atmospheric speckle noise in order to image the circumstellar material around HD 169142. The detected envelope or disk is considerably smaller than expectations based on the measured strength of the far-IR excess from this system.
In this paper, we present the calibration results of the NASA/JPL Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (AIRSAR) for the Pacific Rim II mission. We also demonstrate the key elements of the calibration techniques for both polarimetric SAR (POLSAR) and cross-track interferometric SAR (TOPSAR) processed with the AIRSAR Integrated Processor.
We present simple modifications of the classic Z-scan technique for the investigations of nonlinear chiroptical effects, i.e. nonlinear circular birefringence and two-photon circular dichroism. Two methods for studying these effects: a "polarimetric Z-scan" and a "polarization modulated Zscan" are described in detail. These techniques were applied to estimate the order of magnitude of the effec...
This paper considers the problem of clutter segmentation in fully polarimetric, high resolution, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery. The goal of segmentation is to partition an image into regions of homogeneous terrain types (grass regions, tree regions, roads, etc.). Three approaches to segmentation are examined: (1) the optimal polarimetric classifier, (2) the optimal normalized polarimet...
Until now, most studies about polarimetric contrast optimization have focused on the discrimination of two regions (a target and a background). In this paper, we propose a methodology to determine the set of polarimetric measurements that optimize discrimination of an arbitrary number of regions with different polarimetric properties. We show on real world examples that in some situations, a fe...
A fully polarimetric optical camera system has been constructed to obtain polarimetric information simultaneously from four synchronized charge-coupled device imagers at video frame rates of 60 Hz and a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. The imagers view the same scene along the same optical axis by means of a four-way beam-splitting prism similar to ones used for multiple-imager, common-aperture ...
i Abstract A data assimilation system based on the ensemble square-root Kalman filter (EnSRF) is extended to include the additional capability of assimilating polarimetric radar variables. It is used to assess the impact of simulating additional polarimetric observations on convective storm analysis in an OSSE (Observing System Simulation Experiment) framework. The polarimetric variables consid...
SAR polarimetry makes use of the polarization dependent scattering response of each pixel within the imaged area. The polarimetric response is highly sensitive to the scattering mechanism of a pixel. SAR interferometry is sensitive to the location of a pixel and its scattering geometry. The location of a pixel can be measured by the phase difference between two coherent SAR images using SAR int...
