Formation of the key general radical chain carriers, ˙OH and HO2˙, during pulsed-photolytic ˙Cl-initiated oxidation of tetrahydropyran and cyclohexane are measured with time-resolved infrared absorption in a temperature-controlled Herriott multipass cell in the temperature range of 500-750 K at 20 Torr. The experiments show two distinct timescales for HO2˙ and ˙OH formation in the oxidation of ...

Seven amphiphilic conetworks of methacrylic acid (MAA) and a new hydrophobic monomer, 2-butyl-1-octyl-methacrylate (BOMA), were synthesized using group transfer polymerization. The MAA units were introduced via the polymerization of tetrahydropyranyl methacrylate (THPMA) followed by the removal of the protecting tetrahydropyranyl group by acid hydrolysis after network formation. Both THPMA and ...

Cross-dehydrogenative-coupling (CDC) between C-H/C-H bonds of indoles and cyclic ethers/cycloalkanes is made viable through a simple transition-metal-free pathway. With the aid of only di-tert-butyl peroxide, a number of inactive cyclic ethers and cycloalkanes can be directly coupled with indole derivatives in satisfactory yields.

[reaction: see text] p-Methoxybenzyl ethers have been found to transfer from alcohols to sulfonamides in the presence of catalytic trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. This process for protecting group removal can be performed in solution with yields >94%. Through the use of sulfonamide-functionalized ("safety-catch") resins, p-methoxybenzyl ethers can be cleaved in excellent yields with minimal puri...

Alkyl glyceryl ethers function mostly as skin-conditioning agents in cosmetic products applied to the skin and hair. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review expert panel reviewed the available animal toxicity and clinical data, including the low dermal absorption, and concluded that the alkyl glyceryl ethers are safe in the present practices of use and concentration described in this safety assessment.

Alcohols, trimethylsilyl ethers and thiols were efficiently converted to their corresponding carbonyl and disulfides compounds using o-xylylenebis (triphenylphosphonium) dibromochromate (XTPPDBC). This reagent can selectively oxidize thiols to disulfides in the presence of alcohols and trimethylsilyl ethers in acetonitrile at room temperature.

Selective activation of propargyl 1,2-orthoesters in the presence of propargyl glycosides and propargyl ethers was studied; a catalytic amount of AuBr3 activated the propargyloxy group of the 1,2-orthoester thereby giving access to disaccharides with the propargyl group at the reducing end; furthermore, propargyl ethers were unaffected under the reaction conditions.

A variety of switch—functionalized crown ethers have been synthesized. They change their chemical and physical properties in response to the stimuli from the outside world such as light, redox, heat, etc. These novel crown ethers act as ion carriers in membrane transport systems. The rate of ion transport can be thus controlled by an on—off—type switch.

The sterol ester fraction of Ehrlich ascites cell lipids was analyzed to determine: the type of sterol, the identity of the fatty acids esterified to the sterol, the presence or absence of carcinolipin, and the presence or absence of O-alkyl cholesteryl ethers. Gas-liquid Chromatographie analyses of the intact sterol esters and sterol derivatives showed the sterol to be cholesterol. The fatty a...
