This paper presents a comprehensive radio ontology. The ontology describes the communication/networking scenario, the RF devices, their components and protocols that they support, the policies, and the tasks to be performed. The developed ontology enables wireless Software-Defined Networks (SDN) composed of abstract heterogeneous Radio Frequency (RF) devices.

-Field experience has shown that soil conditions can have large effects on Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) detection of landmines. We discuss available models for the prediction of the dielectric constant from soil physical properties including bulk density, soil texture, and water content. The soil dielectric constant determines the attenuation of the radar signal. The contrast between the diel...

This paper presents a new technique to index and retrieve texture image. The image is modeled with the two-dimensional one-sided linear prediction (OSP) model. The prediction coefficients, normalized mean-square prediction error and a set of seven invariant moments of the prediction error are used as features to index the image. The proposed method is highly successful in retrieving perceptuall...

Under what conditions should a cognitive robot act? How do we define “opportunities” for robot action? How can we characterize their properties? This paper offers an apparatus to frame the discussion. Starting from a simple introductory example, we specify an initial version of a formal framework of opportunity which relates current and future states and beneficial courses of action in a certai...

Prime brokers and hedge funds form relationships in a matching market. What are the determinants of these matches? How did they change after the financial crisis? I estimate a matching model in which part of the profits of prime brokers and hedge funds depends on variables that are defined at the level of the entire portfolio of clients that a prime broker serves. I show that prime brokers and ...

This paper develops a theory of the firm in which a firm’s centralized asset ownership and low-powered incentives give a manager, as an equilibrium outcome, “interpersonal authority” over employees (in a setting with differing priors). The role of low-powered incentives is both to minimize the employees’ temptation to disobey and to co-locate income and control. The role of the manager controll...

This paper reports on the outcomes of a survey implemented in secondary schools. The survey identified the types of access and use of computers by students. It was found that the students had significant access to computers but they were not skilled in many features of computer use. Computers were used for a range of activities, some educational and others recreational by some students. Gender ...
