Background: The fatal effect of ionizing radiation on cells depends on Linear Energy Transfer (LET) level. The distribution of ionizing radiation is sparse and homogeneous for low LET radiations such as X or γ, but it is dense and concentrated for high LET radiation such as heavy-ions radiation. Material and Methods: Chinese hamster ovary cells (CHO-K1) were exposed to 4 Gy Fe-ion 2000 keV/...

We investigate the manipulation of 5 nm diamond nanoparticles in a user-defined pattern on a substrate using the acoustic radiation force associated with a bulk acoustic standing wave. Both concentric and rectangular patterns are studied and the experimental results are compared with theoretical predictions. The effect of drag force acting on a nanoparticle is evaluated and limits for particle ...

Radiation generated by the passage of a monoenergetic electron bunch above the surface wave excited in plane interface between homogeneous media with different dielectric constants is investigated. For the surface wave of general profile the radiation intensity is expressed via the radiated power from a single charge and bunch form factor. Various types of transverse and longitudinal distributi...

Plasmonic properties of metals such as gold is the main factor in the development of optical fiber sensors. Plasmonic property is created by exciting the surface plasmon polaritons by laser radiation. These properties are usually used in boosting and detection. The article examines and compares the collected information such as the length of the fiber optical sensor and the sensitivity of senso...

A double-side radiating leaky-wave antenna based on composite right/left-handed (CRLH) coplanar-waveguide (CPW) is proposed. Dispersion diagram of the unit cell is investigated, and balanced property is confirmed. Thus, the CRLH leaky-wave antenna can have backfire radiation due to the left-handed property of the CRLH structure and broadside radiation at the balancing frequency point. The measu...

A characteristic spectrum of relic gravitational radiation is produced by a period of ‘‘stringy inflation’’ in the early Universe. This spectrum is unusual, because the energy density rises rapidly with frequency. We show that correlation experiments with the two gravitational-wave detectors being built for the Laser Interferometric Gravitational Wave Observatory could detect this relic radiati...

A simplified model of indoor short wave radiation couplings adapted to multi-zone simulations is proposed, thanks to a simplifying hypothesis and to the introduction of an indoor short wave exchange matrix. The specific properties of this matrix appear useful to quantify the thermal radiation exchanges between the zones separated by windows or large openings. Integrated in CODYRUN software, thi...

We report the measurement of optically rectified terahertz (THz) wave power relative to the optical excitation area. Rectified THz wave power reaches its maximum when radius r of the optical excitation area is comparable to the center wavelength of the rectified THz radiation. When r is smaller than the center wavelength of the rectified THz radiation, an r(2) relationship is demonstrated. A mo...

This paper studies the surface modes at the interface of finite size Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) woodpile structures. The impact of different types of woodpile terminations on the properties of these surface modes is analyzed. For all the studied terminations there exist surface modes which must be taken into account when designing components based on this EBG structure.

The wave zone condition for TR produced on the boundary between a metal and vacuum is examined. It is shown that in both forward and backward directions the wave zone sets in at the same distance, that is of the order of the formation length for forward TR. The features of backward TR in the pre-wave zone are considered. PACS:41.60.-m; 41.75.Ht Submitted to Physics Letters A It is a widely acce...
