Classical acoustic and elastic wave scattering problems from an acoustically rigid or soft cylinder are revisited. The behavior of phases as well as magnitudes of each partial waves and form functions are numerically analyzed and discussed. The effect of mode conversion, especially, on the phases of each partial waves in elastic wave scattering is identified.
This paper considers the numerical simulation of 2D electromagnetic wave scattering problems and describes the construction of a reduced–order approximation which enables the rapid prediction of the scattering width distribution for a range of incident wave directions. Associated certainty bounds ensure confidence in the results of the computed approximation. Numerical examples are included to ...
Several Padé methods were used to try to accelerate the convergence of partial wave sums for scattering amplitudes. A specific test problem of longitudinal-to-longitudinal scattering from a spherical void was studied in detail. Results for this test case and the behavior of partial wave amplitudes for general cases are presented and discussed.
We present the complete formalism that describes scattering in graphene at lowenergies. We begin by analyzing the real-space free Green’s function matrix, and its analytical expansions at low-energy, carefully incorporating the discrete lattice structure, and arbitrary forms of the atomic-orbital wave function. We then compute the real-space Green’s function in the presence of an impurity. We e...
We study scattering of a periodic wave in a string on two lumped oscillators attached to it. The equations can be represented as a driven (by the incident wave) dissipative (due to radiation losses) system of delay differential equations of neutral type. Nonlinearity of oscillators makes the scattering non-reciprocal: The same wave is transmitted differently in two directions. Periodic regimes ...
Multi-dimensional and multi-variable heterogeneous petrophysical reservoir models were constructed based on stochastic analysis of well logs. With a full wave form visco-elastic finite difference modeling software, a numerical experiment (cross borehole survey) was conducted to study the impact of Pand S-wave scattering, wave mode conversion, leaky mode mechanism and their integration on the ap...
Lasers can be used to excite and detect ultrasonic waves in a wide variety of materials. This allows the measurement of absolute particle motion without the mechanical disturbances of contacting transducers. In an ultrasound transmission experiment, the wave field is usually accessible only on the boundaries of a sample. Using optical methods, one can measure the surface wave field, in effect, ...
We develop a temporal coupled-mode theory to describe the interaction of plane wave with an individual scatterer having an arbitrary shape. The theory involves the expansion of the fields on cylindrical or spherical wave basis for the two-dimensional and three-dimensional cases, respectively, and describes the scattering process in terms of a background scattering matrix and the resonant radiat...
Two integral relations derived from the Kohn variational principle (KVP) are used for describing scattering states. In usual applications the KVP requires the explicit form of the asymptotic behavior of the scattering wave function. This is not the case when the integral relations are applied since, due to their short-range nature, the only condition for the scattering wave function is that it ...
Using newly calculated electromagnetic corrections [1], [2], we have made a phase shift analysis of the experimental data on πp elastic scattering up to a pion laboratory kinetic energy of 100 MeV. The effective hadronic interaction was assumed to be isospin invariant. The output consists of six hadronic phase shifts in parametrised form: the s-, p1/2and p3/2-waves for total isospin 3/2 and 1/2...
