Plants act as a crucial interface between humans and their environment. The wide use of nanoparticles (NPs) has raised great concerns about their potential impacts on crop health and food safety, leading to an emerging research theme about the interaction between plants and NPs. However, up to this day even the basic issues concerning the eventual fate and characteristics of NPs after internali...

introduction of the metallic nanoparticles (nps) in the bulk glass received a large interest due to their versatile applications. the effect of silver nps on optical properties of the eu3+-doped zinc tellurite glasses is presented for the first time. glass samples are prepared by melt-quenching technique. the surface plasmon absorption bands of silver nps are recorded in the visible region. the...

the objective of the present study was to determine whether there was an association between the in vitroantimicrobial sensitivity test results of subclinical mastitis pathogensand bacteriological cure following intramammary treatment using a combination of nafcillin, penicillin, and streptomycin (nps). eighty-six intramammary pathogens from 43 cows were examined inthis study. most intramammary...

The wide-scale applications of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) in photocatalysts, gas sensors, and cosmetics may cause toxicity to humans and environments. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to reduce the toxicity of ZnO NPs by coating them with a silica (SiO2) layer, which could be used in human applications, such as cosmetic preparations. The sol-gel method was used to synthesiz...

The specific properties of metal-based nanoparticles (NPs) have not only led to rapidly increasing applications in various industrial and commercial products, but also caused environmental concerns due to the inevitable release of NPs and their unpredictable biological/ecological impacts. This review discusses the environmental behavior of metal-based NPs with an in-depth analysis of the mechan...

Discrete nanostructures of CdSe@ZnS QDs and Au NPs were prepared and the photonic interactions between the QDs and Au NPs were systematically investigated. We found that the Au/QD ratio, separation distances between Au NPs and QDs, and the size of the Au NPs in a given discrete nanostructure all affect the interaction between Au NPs and QDs.

Combination chemotherapy in clinical practice has been generally accepted as a feasible strategy for overcoming multidrug resistance (MDR). Here, we designed and successfully prepared a co-delivery system named S-D1@L-D2 NPs, where denoted some smaller nanoparticles (NPs) carrying a drug doxorubicin (DOX) were loaded into a larger NP containing another drug (vincristine [VCR]) via water-in-oil-...

Although it is frequently hypothesized that surface (like surface charge) and physical characteristics (like particle size) play important roles in cellular interactions of nanoparticles (NPs), a systematic study probing this issue is missing. Hence, a comparative cytotoxicity study, quantifying nine different cellular endpoints, was performed with a broad series of monodisperse, well character...

Neuropeptide S (NPS) was identified as the endogenous ligand of an orphan receptor now referred to as the NPS receptor (NPSR). In the frame of a structure-activity study performed on NPS Gly5, the NPSR ligand [D-Cys(tBu)(5)]NPS was identified. [D-Cys(tBu)(5)]NPS up to 100 microM did not stimulate calcium mobilization in human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cells stably expressing the mouse NPSR; ho...

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an emerging effective treatment for cancer. However, the great promise of PDT for bladder cancer therapy has not yet been realized because of tumor hypoxia. To address this challenge, we fabricated O2-generating HSA-MnO2-Ce6 NPs (HSA for human serum albumin, Ce6 for chlorin e6, and NPs for nanoparticles) to overcome tumor hypoxia and thus enhance the photodynamic e...
