Aeromonas hydrophila is an opportunistic pathogen and the leading cause of fatal hemorrhagic septicemia in rainbow trout. A gene encoding an elastolytic activity, ahyB, was cloned from Aeromonas hydrophila AG2 into pUC18 and expressed in Escherichia coli and in the nonproteolytic species Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. masoucida. Nucleotide sequence analysis of the ahyB gene revealed an open readi...

The complete genome of Aeromonas hydrophila ATCC 7966(T) was sequenced. Aeromonas, a ubiquitous waterborne bacterium, has been placed by the Environmental Protection Agency on the Contaminant Candidate List because of its potential to cause human disease. The 4.7-Mb genome of this emerging pathogen shows a physiologically adroit organism with broad metabolic capabilities and considerable virule...

Ten strains of Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from water samples were characterized by various methods including biochemical and physiological tests, as well as PCR-RFLP analysis with Universal 16s rRNA primers. Biochemical characterization and PCR-RFLP analysis proved to be useful, rapid and reliable method for identifying widely distributed Aeromonas spp. from environmental samples. The signif...

INTRODUCTION Aeromonas hydrophila sometimes causes bacteremia, which can be fatal in compromised patients, such as those with liver cirrhosis. We present a case of septic shock due to Aeromonas hydrophila bacteremia in a patient with liver cirrhosis, which was successfully treated with rapid resuscitation and critical care. CASE PRESENTATION A 71-year-old Japanese man with liver cirrhosis was...

The aim of this study was to isolate β-haemolytic Aeromonas hydrophila strains from live rainbow trouts (Oncorhynchus mykiss) destined for human consumption and to investigate their resistance to antimicrobial drugs. Sterile swab samples were collected from 52 rainbow trouts. Fifteen (28.8%) βhaemolytic Aeromonas strains were isolated from collected 52 swab samples. Through API 20 NE, 12 of the...

Densities of Aeromonas hydrophila showed distinct thermal optima (25 to 35 degrees C) and thermal maxima (45 degrees C) when measured along thermal gradients created by geothermal and nuclear reactor effluents. Survival of A. hydrophila never exceeded 48 h at temperatures of greater than 45 degrees C. Thermophilic strains could not be isolated at any site.

Aeromonas hydrophila is a rare human pathogen. Reports of zoonotic infection developing after large feline bites are even rarer. We are documenting the first case of human wound infection with A. hydrophila following a tiger bite. The patient responded well following wound debridement, secondary suturing and combination antibiotic therapy.

Aeromonas hydrophila is an important opportunistic pathogen that infects a variety of aquatic and terrestrial animals, including humans. We report here the draft genome sequence of A. hydrophila Ae34, a multidrug-resistant isolate from the kidney of a moribund koi carp (Ciprinus carpio koi) with signs of hemorrhagic septicemia.

Motile aeromonad septicemia caused by mesophilic strains of Aeromonas hydrophila is a widespread problem in cultured freshwater fish. We announce here the draft genome sequence of the multidrug-resistant A. hydrophila strain Ae25, isolated from a koi carp (Cyprinus carpio) with motile aeromonad septicemia that was collected from an ornamental fish-breeding farm in Sri Lanka.
