To investigate an outbreak of avian pox in psittacines in a conservation facility, we examined 94 birds of 10 psittacine species, including sick and healthy birds. We found psittacine pox virus in 23 of 27 sick birds and 4 of 67 healthy birds. Further characterization is needed for these isolates.
Introduction: Organophosphate (OP) pesticide is used as chemical warfare nerve agents against both military and civilian population during the Iran–Iraq War. Paraoxon (POX) as an OP acts via the inhibition of cholinesterase and disturbance in body antioxidant systems. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) as an antioxidant against POX- induced oxid...
Anti-vaccine sentiment found fertile soil in the US, where the ethos of individual responsibility often clashed with public health programs based on collective norms. As Allen notes, Americans remained suspicious of calls for mandatory vaccination. What kept vaccine opponents on the defensive, however, were the rapid breakthroughs in medicine and public health. Jenner's triumph was followed by ...
The lesions found in animals with epidemic rabbit pox have been described in this paper. The most distinctive gross lesion in all organs and tissues was the small nodule or papule which was found to consist of mononuclear infiltration and necrosis. Diffuse lesions were also found in which the infiltration was widespread and accompanied by edema, hemorrhage and extensive necrosis of affected tis...
Observations on an epidemic of rabbit pox occurring in an isolated animal room during the winter of 1933-34 are reported. The clinical manifestations, consisting of a generalized papular eruption involving the skin and mucous membranes, together with blepharitis, ophthalmia, nasal discharge and lymphadenopathy were essentially similar to those noted in a pox epidemic of the previous year. This ...
In addition to glycolysis, the oncogenic transcription factor c-MYC (MYC) stimulates glutamine catabolism to fuel growth and proliferation of cancer cells through up-regulating glutaminase (GLS). Glutamine is converted to glutamate by GLS, entering the tricarboxylic acid cycle as an important energy source. Less well-recognized, glutamate can also be converted to proline through Δ(1)-pyrroline-...
ing from consequences which were virtually certain to arrive, sooner or later. The exigencies of monthly publication preclude us from quoting figures which vary from day to day, and it must be enough to say that the number of cases at Gloucester Avhich have been diagnosed as small-pox has been so large that the utmost anxiety is reasonably felt as to when, and where, the epidemic will end. Thes...
Aim: To detect and differentiate Capripox virus (sheeppox virus and goatpox virus) infections by using 30 kDa RNA polymerase subunit (RPO30) gene based PCR. Materials and Methods: Two capripox viruses' viz., sheep pox virus (SPPV) and goatpox virus (GTPV) from clinical samples of different outbreaks were detected and differentiated using capri pox virus (CaPVs) genotyping PCR targeting the CaPV...
