This study investigated the effects of drink composition on voluntary intake, hydration status, selected physiological responses and affective states during simulated gymnasium-based exercise. In a randomised counterbalanced design, 12 physically active adults performed three 20-min intervals of cardiovascular exercise at 75% heart rate maximum, one 20-min period of resistance exercise and 20 m...

a comprehensive evaluation of the residual levels of organochlorine insecticides (ocis) in the sediment cores of cochin estuarine system (ces) is highlighted in this research article. it assessed the distribution pattern and impact of these xenobiotics in this environmental niche. fifteen persistent organochlorine compounds (ocs) were quantitatively analysed in the six sediment core samples col...

This double-blind, sham-controlled study sought to investigate the effectiveness of cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) for the treatment of bipolar II depression (BD II). After randomization, the active group participants (n = 7) received 2 mA CES treatment for 20 minutes five days a week for 2 weeks, whereas the sham group (n = 9) had the CES device turned on and off. Symptom non-remitte...

Cauda equina syndrome (CES) is often defined as a complex of symptoms and signs consisting of low back pain, bilateral sciatica, lower extremity weakness, saddle anesthesia, and bowel and bladder dysfunction. CES is considered to be neurosurgical emergency. Delayed or missed diagnosis of CES can result in serious morbidity and neurological sequelae. However, the diagnosis of CES is often diffic...

A spot-adaptive compound clustering-enhancement-segmentation (CES) scheme was developed for the quantification of gene expression levels in microarray images. The CES-scheme employed 1/griding, for locating spotregions, 2/Fuzzy C-means clustering, for segmenting spots from background, 3/ background noise estimation and spot’s center localization, 4/emphasizing of spot’s outline by the CLAHE ima...

The Center for Epidemiologic Studies–Depression (CES-D) scale is a well-known self-report instrument that is used to measure depressive symptomatology. Respondents who take the fulllength version of the CES-D are administered a total of 20 items. This article investigates the use of curtailment and stochastic curtailment (SC), two sequential analysis methods that have recently been proposed for...

OBJECTIVE We determined the reliability and validity of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) against the DSM-IV-based diagnostic inventory, Schedule for Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatry (SCAN), in a multiethnic sample of adult subjects with diabetes attending a diabetes center in Singapore. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 522 subjects (74.7% Chinese, 11.1...

—We developed novel conditional expressions (CEs) for Lane and Bates' blind deconvolution. The CEs are given in term of the derivatives of the zero-values of the z-transform of given images. The CEs make it possible to automatically detect multiple blur convolved in the given images all at once without performing any analysis of the zero-sheets of the given images. We illustrate the multiple bl...

Cauda equina syndrome (CES) although uncommon, is a very serious condition, which should be diagnosed as soon as possible. Urinary dysfunction following a lumbosacral trauma is a key for the physician to consider CES as the most probable diagnosis. Up to 62% of CES patients report a recent episode of trauma. We herein report a young man with CES due to sacral fracture with an interesting imaging.
