The title compound, C(76)H(80)O(16), is a macrocyclic structure. This novel resorcin[4]arene derivative has (meth-oxy-carbon-yl)meth-oxy 'head' groups on the upper rim. The compound has a C(2v) 'boat' geometry and there are a range of C-H⋯O contacts in the crystal structure.

The Bingel functionalisation of C(60) with a structurally novel tether equipped with three reactive malonate groups afforded a C(2v)-symmetrical e(edge),e(face),trans-1 trisadduct in a complete regioselective manner and in an excellent yield of 65%. In this note we prove that the problem of the determination of the integer solutions to the equation y2 = x(x + 2apb)(x − 2apb) can be easily reduced to the resolution of the unit equation u+ √ 2v = 1 over Q( √ 2, √ p). Regioselective cycloaddition of adamantylidene carbene to Pr@C(2v)(9)-C82 affords the first derivative of praseodymium-containing metallofullerenes. Single-crystal X-ray crystallographic data in combination with theoretical studies demonstrate that the addition is dictated by the single metal ion encapsulated inside the fullerene cage.
