PURPOSE To assess the repeatability of corneal wavefront aberrations derived from Pentacam (Oculus) corneal topography. SETTING Flinders Eye Centre, Flinders Medical Centre, Bedford Park, South Australia, Australia. METHODS Forty-five normal participants and 10 participants with keratoconus were tested. Intraobserver and interobserver repeatability was determined using 4 observers within an...

PURPOSE To assess the compensation of total ocular and corneal wavefront aberrations after conventional myopic LASIK. METHODS This study comprised 57 eyes of 57 patients. Total and corneal aberrations were measured preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively using the OPD-Scan (NIDEK Co Ltd) aberrometer. Total and corneal aberrations root-mean-square (RMS) was calculated out to the 6th Zernik...

Chromosomal instability is the major form of genomic instability in cancer cells. Amongst various forms of chromosomal instability, pericentromeric or centromeric instability remains particularly poorly understood. In the present study, we found that pericentromeric instability, evidenced by dynamic formation of pericentromeric or centromeric rearrangements, breaks, deletions or iso-chromosomes...

Purpose The human eye has typically more optical aberrations than conventional artificial optical systems. While the lower order modes (defocus and astigmatism) are well studied, our purpose is to explore the influence of genes versus the environment on the higher order aberrations of the optical components of the eye. Methods We have performed a classical twin study in a sample from the Regi...

MOTIVATION In cancer genomes, chromosomal regions harboring cancer genes are often subjected to genomic aberrations like copy number alteration and loss of heterozygosity. Given this, finding recurrent genomic aberrations is considered an apt approach for screening cancer genes. Although several permutation-based tests have been proposed for this purpose, none of them are designed to find recur...

Although rare, mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is one of the most common malignant salivary gland tumors. The presence of the t(11;19)(q21;p13) translocation in a subset of MECs has raised interest in genomic aberrations in MEC. In the present study we conducted genome-wide copy-number-aberration analysis by micro-array comparative-genomic-hybridization on 27 MEC samples.Low/intermediate-grade M...

Aberrations limit scanning fluorescence microscopy when imaging in scattering materials such as biological tissue. Model-based approaches for adaptive optics take advantage of a computational model the optical setup. Such models can be combined with optimization techniques machine learning frameworks to find aberration corrections, was demonstrated focusing laser beam through aberrations onto c...

We report on the effect of retrace error during measurement freeform optics using a commercial coherence scanning interferometer (CSI), and its in-built stitching capabilities. It is shown that measuring segments under non-null conditions, results in artifacts measured zone, similar to Seidel aberrations. An experimental approach used quantify induced aberrations based local slopes surface. Sim...

The point spread function (PSF) produced by a coherent optical system under the influence of defocus, coma, and primary spherical aberration (PSA) is examined in this work. This paper deals with asymmetric apodization pupil engineering to control monochromatic aberrations. To reduce aberrations on diffracted PSF, approach uses amplitude phase apodization. Analytical investigations intensity PSF...

For five consecutive eyes from five patients with liquefied aftercataract, Nd:YAG laser treatment significantly reduced high-order aberrations. Two eyes showing a reduction in positive spherical-like aberrations after treatment showed a postoperative myopic shift, while three eyes showing no change in spherical-like aberrations demonstrated hyperopic or only a slight myopic shift.
