This paper describes a method for detecting automobiles and people in streaming or archived video. Our video object tracking system is based on Kalman filter updating of an active contour over the video sequence. We use the sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) to classify the moving objects. Results are shown of a real video sequence from a busy city intersection.

— Left ventricular segmentation is essential for measuring left ventricular function indices. Segmentation of one or several images requires an initial guess of the contour. It is hypothesized here that creating an initial guess by first detecting anatomical markers, would lead to correct detection of the endocardium. The first step of the algorithm presented here includes automatic detection o...

This paper considers the problem of 3D motion recovery from a sequence of monocular images while zooming. Unlike the common trend based on point matches, the proposed method relies on the deformation of an active contour fitted to a reference object. We derive the relation between the contour deformation and the 3D motion components, assuming time-varying focal length and principal point. This ...

In this paper we present an approach to perform automated analysis of nematodes in population images. Occlusion, shape variability and structural noise make reliable recognition of individuals a task difficult. Our approach relies on shape and geometrical statistical data obtained from samples of segmented lines. We study how shape similarity in the objects of interest, is encoded in active con...

Accurate blood vessel segmentation plays a crucial role in non-invasive blood flow velocity measurement based on complex-valued magnetic resonance images. We propose a specific snake active contour model-based blood vessel segmentation framework for complex-valued magnetic resonance images. The proposed framework combines both magnitude and phase information from a complex-valued image represen...

We address the problem of moving object segmentation using active contours. As far as segmentation of moving objects is concerned, region-based terms must be incorporated in the evolution equation of the active contour, in addition to classical boundary-based terms. In this paper, we propose a general framework for region-based active contours. Novel aspects of the segmentation method include a...

Finite elements allow smoothness to be enforced on the measurement of the image-dependent term in active contours. This improves the stability of the solution, with less computational cost than is incurred by increasing the number of elements. Performance is best when the size of the element matches the scale of the image detail sought. This property of Finite elements can be used deliberately ...

In this paper we present a new method for motion tracking of tumors in liver ultrasound image sequences. Our algorithm has two main steps. In the first step, we apply mean shift algorithm with multiple features to estimate the center of the target in each frame. Target in the first frame is defined using an ellipse. Edge, texture, and intensity features are extracted from the first frame, and t...
