We report measurements of excess electron mobility in dense Argon gas at the two temperatures T = 152.15 and 162.30 K, fairly close to the critical one (Tc = 150.7 K), as a function of the gas density N up to 14 atoms·nm−3 (Nc = 8.08 atoms·nm−3). For the first time a maximum of the zero-field density-normalized mobility μ0N has been observed at the same density where it was detected in liquid A...

The Advanced Photon Source (APS) currently under construction at Argonne National Laboratory will be one of the world’s brightest synchrotron radiation facilities. The storage ring, capable of storing currents up to 300 mA at 7.0 GeV and 200 mA at 7.5 GeV, will produce very intense and energetic synchrotron radiation (Ec = 24 keV for bending magnets and Ec = 37.4 keV for wigglers, where Ec is t...

We propose an optical method based on Rayleigh scattering for the direct measurement of cluster tracks produced by a high-pressure gas jet. The tracks of the argon and methane clusters are acquired by a high-speed camera. It is found that the cluster sizes of these tracks are within the range of 7E + 03~1E + 07 for argon and 2E + 06~4E + 08 for methane. Most argon tracks are continuous and thei...

Numerous death cases due to suffocation in a toxic or oxygen deficient gas atmosphere have been described in the literature, but unfortunately especially cases involving inert gases like helium are often presented without detailed toxicological findings. Observations on two suicides are reported, one by helium and the other by argon inhalation. During autopsies gas samples from the lungs were c...

The effect of ambient gas on the dynamics of the plasma generated by laser ablation of a carbon target using 1.06 mm radiation from a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser has been investigated using a spectroscopic technique. The emission characteristics of the carbon plasma produced in argon, helium and air atmospheres are found to depend strongly on the nature and pressure of the surrounding gas. It has b...

Abstract A 2 mm gas gap Resistive Plate Chamber with bakelite plates has been operated in avalanche mode under a 137Cs source irradiation. We report on measurements of the efficiency in cosmic rays detection and of the charge developed in the gap, performed for two different gas mixtures: the first containing a high percentage of environmental friendly ”freon” C2H2F4; the second one having a hi...

Ageing of nanosized silicon nitride powder produced by the vapor phase reaction of silicon tetrachloride and ammonia has been studied in argon gas, in dry air and in air of 80% humidity, respectively, for 3 to 540 days. No remarkable changes were observed either in the bulk or the surface properties on storage in argon gas for 90 days. However, samples stored in dry air and humid air, respectiv...

the growth rate and uniformity of carbon nano tubes (cnts) based on chemical vapor deposition (cvd) technique is investigated by using a numerical model. in this reactor, inlet gas mixture, including xylene as carbon source and mixture of argon and hydrogen as  carrier gas enters into a horizontal cvd reactor at atmospheric pressure. based on the gas phase and surface reactions, released carbon...

The information system is a coherently structured assembly, made of electronic computing and communication equipments, software, processes, automated and manual procedures, used as automatic data processing tool within a field of activity. In the process of welding in shielding gas environment with fusible electrode, there are used either inert or active gases. Therefore, we make the distinctio...

R. S. Davis We report a new determination of the Universal Gas Constant R: (8.314471 ±0.OOOOI4)J.mol1K1• The uncertainty in the new value is 1.7 ppm (standard error), a factor of 5 smaller than the uncertainty in the best previous value. The gas constant was determined from measurements of the speed of sound in argon as a function of pressure at the temperature of the triple point of water. The...
