Antibody response against nucleocapsid and spike proteins of SARS-CoV-2 in 11 persons with mild or asymptomatic infection rapidly increased after infection. At weeks 18-30 diagnosis, all remained seropositive but protein-targeting antibody titers declined. These data may be useful for vaccine development.

American cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) is a major public health problem caused by vector-borne protozoan intracellular parasites from the genus Leishmania, subgenera Viannia and Leishmania. Asymptomatic infection is the most common outcome after Leishmania inoculation. There is incomplete knowledge of the biological processes explaining the absence of signs or symptoms in most cases while other...

With the aim of determining the prevalence of asymptomatic Plasmodium spp. infection by thick smear and PCR and its association with demographic and epidemiological characteristics in the village of Nuevo Tay, Tierralta, Córdoba, Colombia, a cross-sectional population study was carried out, using random probabilistic sampling. Venous blood samples were taken from 212 people on day 0 for thick s...

Background: Congenital toxoplasmosis results from vertical transmission of the Toxoplasma gondii parasite mother to fetus after a primary maternal infection. The risk fetal contamination is higher later term Conversely, severe infection decreases with term; third trimester infections are most often asymptomatic at birth.

Evidence suggests that many Ebola infections are asymptomatic, a factor overlooked by recent outbreak summaries and projections. Particularly, results from one post-Ebola outbreak serosurvey showed that 71% of seropositive individuals did not have the disease; another study reported that 46% of asymptomatic close contacts of patients with Ebola were seropositive. Although asymptomatic infection...

Introduction: Gardnerella vaginalis (GV) or bacterial vaginosis is one of the most microorganism agents of vaginitis. Malodorous vaginal discharge is the most common symptom of this vaginitis. GV can be found in vagina of asymptomatic women. Importance of this organism is for its complications during pregnancy and non pregnancy and after gynecologic operations. The purpose of this study is det...

Group A streptococci (GAS) cause three different types of infection (sensu lato) with distinct levels of virulence: asymptomatic colonization, superficial symptomatic infection, and invasive infection. To address why this pattern with several infection types has evolved, we combine mechanistic understanding from infection medicine with recent theory from evolutionary ecology. We propose that as...

BACKGROUND The characteristics, determinants, and potential contribution to transmission of asymptomatic cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection have not been well described. METHODS A cohort of 47 households (493 individuals) in coastal Kenya was recruited and followed for a 26-week period spanning a complete RSV season. Nasopharyngeal swab specimens were requested weekly, durin...

Background and Objective: HG is a severe form of expectancy nausea and vomiting, occurring in 0/5 to 2% of the expectancies. The etiology of HG is unknown, though hormonal stimuli, and psychologic predisposition are attributable to the condition. Recent studies suggest a relationship between HG and H.pylori infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between HG and H.py...

Potential virulence, as defined by combined levels of adhesion to urinary epithelial cells, serum resistance, and mouse toxicity, was assessed for Escherichia coli strains causing symptomatic and asymptomatic urinary tract infections in relation to the carriage of hemolysin and other suspected virulence determinants. Hemolysin production (Hly), associated with certain O (O4, O6, O18, and O75), ...
