We introduce a bicomplex which computes the triple cohomology of Lie– Rinehart algebras. We prove that the triple cohomology is isomorphic to the Rinehart cohomology [13] provided the Lie–Rinehart algebra is projective over the corresponding commutative algebra. As an application we construct a canonical class in the third dimensional cohomology corresponding to an associative algebra.

We introduce an idea for generalization of a local cohomology module, which we call a local cohomology module with respect to a pair of ideals (I, J), and study their various properties. Some vanishing and nonvanishing theorems are given for this generalized version of local cohomology. We also discuss its connection with the ordinary local cohomology.

Extending Eilenberg–Mac Lane’s cohomology of abelian groups, a cohomology theory is introduced for commutative monoids. The cohomology groups in this theory agree with the pre-existing ones by Grillet in low dimensions, but they differ beyond dimension two.
